DAVIS, PHILLIPS, MILLER, LEWIS, ROSE - Perry & Juniata Cos.
I am looking for James DAVIS, born about 1761, and died 10 September, 1850, on georges Creek, Fayette County, near Rubles Mill. He was married to Keziah PHILLIPS. They are buried in the Woodbridgetown Church Cemetery in Fayette County, Pa. I know that my James DAVIS served in 1780 with Company 7, Seventh Battalion of Cumberland County Militia. It has been told to me that this unit was composed of men from Farmanagh, Lack, Greenwood, and Milford Townships and that later these townships became part of Juniata County (1831). I don't know if this is true or not...I do believe that my James DAVIS came from Perry/Franklin/Cumberland/ or Juniata County area of Pa.

Can anyone tell me about these DAVISES? I would like to know more. It is said that my James DAVIS drew a state pension, PENNA ACT 51, approved 14 October, 1835. One of James DAVIS daughters, Mary DAVIS, married to a William MILLER. A son, Zachariah DAVIS married to Hannah DAVIS, dau of Meshach DAVIS and Nancy Ann LEWIS. FAIR, SHADE -Perry Co.
I am researching David Fair (b. 1812, d. aft 1850) According to the 1850 census, he was remarried in 1849-50 to Catherine. According to the US Census of 1850 for Shermans Dale, Perry County, PA He had at least 4 children:
Sarah Fair: b. 1831
George Fair: b. 1834
Rebecca Fair: b. 1841
Anna Mary Fair: b. march 21, 1849 (my 2nd great grandmother)
Does anybody have any information on his first wife (probably Elizabeth Shade b. 1815) or his parents?
I found an additional David Fair and a David Fair Sr. listed in the 1860 census, but this David Fair's birthdate does not align well with the one listed in 1850, nor does he appear to have an 11 year old daughter or wife. Also, he seems to have the wrong occupation - Attorney.

ICKES, DAY, WIERMAN - Perry & Adams Cos.
I am researching William Ickes, born November 10, 1838 in PA, died December 16, 1906 in Newport, Perry County, PA and is buried in Newport Cemetery. His mother's maiden name was Day (Ruth ?, the daughter of Nelson?). There is a William Ickes in the 1860 Adams County census, occupation tailor, age 21. There is a William Ickes in the1870 Perry County census, occupation tailor, age 32--I am led to believe the two Williams are one and the same.

William Ickes is my gr. gr. gr. grandfather, married to Lydia Jane Wierman in Adams County, PA in 1862. They had two children-Harry William, born March 29, 1864, and Clementine, born April 7, 1866. Lydia Jane died in September of 1866, and for some unknown reason, William was unable to care for the children. They were raised by their aunt, Mary E. Wierman. She moved to Williamson County, Texas in the 1880s and took the two children with her.

I believe that William remarried to Annie (UMN) and had the following children (from the 1870 and 1880 Perry County, Newport Borough, census, and information received from the Perry Historians): Mary (Minnie Mary?) 1868-1870, Turic S. 1871-1936, and William O. 1875-1909.
Any and all information appreciated.

VAUGHN/VAWN, BOLINGER, RICHARDSON - Perry,Mifflin,Juniata Co's.
My great-great grandfather was Frederick Vaughn/Vawn 1826-1899, married to Katherine Bolinger 1822-1973, they had the following children: Mary, William Franklin, John D., Hannah J., Frederick J., andSamuel. William Franklin was my great grandfather.
William Franklin Vaughn/Vawn married Margaret Richardson. They gave birth to Laura B. Ada F., Charles F. Ada F. was my grandmother. There seems to be a problem with the spelling of the name. My grandmother spelled her name VAUGHN. I am certain of this as I have her bible, and my sister was given the middle name
VAUGHN. I also have the death certificate of William Franklin Vaughn, and the name is spelled "VAUGHN". However, the name of his father, Frederick is spelled "VAWN.
If anyone has any information at all regarding these family lines please contact me at DFox1943@aol.com.

Jesse I had 10 children from his first marriage and 2 children from the second to Caroline. Jesse II and his younger brother went to Texas in the early 1890's. ROBISON,SANDERSON,BAXTER - Perry Co.
My 4-Great-Grandfather was George ROBISON, born ca. 1727 [maybe] in Coleraine, Ulster, Northern Ireland. He came to the U.S. in the mid-1700's [we surmise] and settled in Tyrone Twp., near Roseburg, Cumberland Co. PA. [the area is now part of Saville or perhaps Tuscarora Twp. in Perry Co.] His wife is unknown, but she may have been Elizabeth. George died in Perry Co. ca 1798, we are told. They had six children:

Thomas, b. 1764, d. 1852; m. (1) 1/13/1789 Agnes McMILLEN; m. (2) Nancy ELLIOTT; (3 children, including Jane who married a George SANDERSON), Robert, b. 1767, d. 1834; see below, Margaret, b. ?, d. 1843?; m. 8/7/1789 to Alexander SANDERSON, Nancy, b. 1770, d. 1843; Mary, b. ? d. ?; m. 6/25/1793 to William ROBINSON (five children?), Elizabeth, b. ? d. ? m. William SANDERSON

(William SANDERSON and Alexander SANDERSON above were first cousins. George SANDERSON above was a nephew of Alexander SANDERSON)

The above may not necessarily be correct in all details. I'm pretty sure my George is not *Capt. George* Robison, nor the proprieter of *Robinson's Fort*. There are three George Robi(n)sons that I know of in Perry/Cumberland Co., but none have the same children as those listed above. This is my major roadblock. The George of Robinson's Fort was apparently also born in 1727, d. 1814, so these dates may be suspect for my George.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My 3-Great-Grandfather was Robert ROBISON, born ca.1767 in Tyrone [later Saville] Twp, Perry Co. PA, died Dec 1834 in/near the *Raccoon Valley* of Perry Co. PA. He married Susanna, dau. of William GRAHAM. They had 8 children:
George, b. 1792, d. 1875 m. Jane Margaretta GRAHAM (served in the War of 1812, was known as *Major* George but was only a private or corporal. Bur. Centre Presbyterian Cemetery near Loysville), Robert, b. 1793, d. 1880; married Catherina HENCH, William, b. 1795, d. 1876; m. Christina ZIEGLER, Jane, b. 1796, d. 1851; never married; John M., b. 1797, d. 1867; see below Thomas, b. 1798, d. 1845; never married; David Elliott, b. 1800, d. 1864; m. (1) Mary CASSETTE; m. (2) Rose Ann WALKUP (five children w/each), Sidney, b. 1802, d. 1872; never married
There is sufficient evidence to make me confident in the accuracy of the above generation.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My Great-Great-Grandfather was John M. ROBISON, born 3/3/1797 in Tyrone Twp. Perry Co. PA.; m. ca 1820 to Jane R. BAXTER. John and Jane moved to Crawford Co. Ohio in 1837. John died 8/15/1867, and Jane died 5/18/1857. Both are buried in the Goodwill Cemetery, S.E. of Waynesburg, Crawford Co. Ohio. They had 9 children. The youngest was my Great-Grandfather John R. ROBISON.
Jane Baxter's father was a Jonathan BAXTER, who operated a Tannery near Roseburg, Perry Co. PA, we are told, though there seems to be no record of Jonathan Baxter with a daughter Jane who fits the time frame.

SINGER, WINTUS, HUGGENTUDDLER, MURRAY, THARPE - Perry Co.
Many of my ancestors lived in Liverpool, Pa. George Washington Singer was born in 1832 and died in 1914. Would like to know about his ancestors and when he/they came to America. Also was he German or Jewish. Did many Jews come to Perry Co. -- if so, did they assimilate? His wife was Harriet Wintus. His son was Lincoln who married married Mary Huggentuddler. I understand she was trained by a doctor and provided medical care in Liverpool in the 1920s and 1930s. Also, there is a "Singer monument" in the Liverpool Cemetary. Does anyone know who is buried there?
I believe my earliest Murray ancestors were John and Rebecca Murray born in 1796. They may have come from Ireland with George Cary Tharpe (prominent citizen at the time in Liverpool). Looking for any connection between these families and Irish emigration around that time. Did any Irish Catholics emigrate that early -- or were they all Scotch-Irish from the north of Ireland? Later ancestors were Jacob E. Murray , his brother John W. Murray (who I believe owned the boatyard), George Cary Murray who was a "boatman" on the Susquehanna. Any information appreciated. Will be happy to share additional info I have.
