Rebecca Sanning

Registered surname(s): Bechtel, Dearoff, Dearolf, Dierolf, Dierolff, Folk, Gerling, Hain, Hallman, Hasley, Helsinger, Heltzinger, Helzinger, Hilzinger, Hollenbeck, Hosley, Martin, Muntz, Noll, Pauly, Quaintance, Rissmiller, Texter, Ward on March 31, 2006

Comments: I am looking for information on/decendants of Joseph and Minnie Helsinger. There were several children-William H., Mary E., Samuel, John F., Camila, and Henry. Henry has also been listed as Harry and the census takers have also listed the last name as Helzinger and Heltzinger. Three additional descendants: The first is Howard and Mary BECHTEL. Mary is their oldest daughter. There were no children. The second is George W. and Camille R. HOSLEY(sometimes spelled Hasley). They had two daughters-Edith L. and Ruth A. The last family is George H. and Edith L. NOLL. They had three children: George H. Jr., Mary C., and Robert H.

Hain-specifically anyone who may have information on the parants of Debra. Heltzinger-I have every other spelling but that one. Dierolf/Dierolff.Dearoff/ Dearolf. The obit says Dierolf but I can't control earlier spellings. Folk is the next one. Then we have Muntz, Pauly, Rissmiller, Gerling, Hollenbeck, Martin, Ward, Texter, Hallman and I believe Quaintance is the last one for now.

Registered surname(s): de Saussure, Klahr, Sauser, Sausser on March 20, 2011

Stewart Saylor

Registered surname(s): Sayler, Saylor, Seiler on May 20, 2006

Comments: I have established a SAYLOR DNA project at FamilyTreeDNA. Participation in the project provides a testing discount. The PRIMARY purpose is to validate a connection between the early Pennsylvania SAYLOR/SAYLER/SEILER families as suggested by the research of Richard Warren Davis. If validated through DNA testing this would connect the large families researched of Samuel J. Saylor (central PA) and Dr. E. C. Saylor (western PA). The SECONDARY purpose is to bring together other SAYLOR/SAYLER/SEILER families and to complement the genealogical paper trail. Testing is simple – requiring only a cotton swab of saliva from the mouth. Because the Y-chromosome DNA is passed from father to son virtually unchanged for hundreds of generations, the testing will focus on males with the SAYLOR/SAYLER/SEILER surname. Interested females are not excluded; but, must have a brother, father or male cousin submit a test. You will find additional information on the following web page: DNA Project

Jeri Schindler

Registered surname(s): SCHAEFFER, SCHAFFER on February 27, 2005

Comments: I am researching the SCHAEFFER, SCHAFFER name in Berks County (or possible neighboring counties). According to a narrative written by Claire SCHAFFER CORNICAN, (George) Christian SCHAEFFER, b. 1755 in Germany, was a Hessian soldier--one of 3 brothers who fought for the British in the American Revolution. He and/or his brothers established a grist mill in Pennsylvania (location unknown). He owned farms in Exeter, Oley, and Boyertown. The farm in Exeter has been referred to as "Capt. Schaeffer Farm." Was Christian a captain with the Hessians? Or? Church records confirm that he married Anna Margaretha Hoch (Huck) 01 Jan 1788 in Philadelphia. Christian and Anna had a son, John Schaeffer b. 28 Feb 1788, but were there other children? I am especially interested in learning the birth and death dates (and any other details of the life) of SAMUEL SCHAEFFER. Was his father Christian or one of his brothers? Samuel married his first wife Rebecca THOMAS with whom he fathered Agustus SCHAFFER b. 1827. Rebecca died soon after Augustus' birth. Second wife was Christina HARTRANFT with whom he had four children: 1) Mahlon Schaffer b. abt 1830, 2) John Schaffer b. abt 1833, 3) Jacob Schaffer b abt. 1836 and 4) Mary Ann Schaffer b. 18 Jan 184. Sam and Christina may have lived in Pottsgrove, Montgomery Co. for a while.

Sally Scott

Registered surname(s): Drumheller, Fry, Fuchs, Geiger, Grant, Haag, Keener, Knabb, Miller, Schlappich on April 22, 2005

Comments: My earliest records are for John (Johannes) Grant taxed as a married man 1799. His wife's name was Maria (or Anna Maria). They had 5 children (probably more that did not survive to adulthood). Jacob Grant born about 1803 married Lidia Knabb. Charles born 1808, Married 1831, Catherine Knouse. Maria born 1810 married Jacob Mock. Jeremiah BD ? married Ellenora?. Bartolet born 1817 married 1843 Esther Stapleton. I found my ancestor Jeremiah Grant married in 1824 Berks Co. Pa Ellenora Fuchs. Would like any information on either of them.

Bertolett Grant being my direct line had 12 plus children. He remained in Berks Co. moving to Reading. Pa. with many of his children following him to that town. Charles and Catherine Grant went to Boyertown. Jeremiah and Ellenora went to Union, Maria and husband Jacob Mock to Weavertown.I don't have too much more on my family and would love to know some family history and the names of those I have not been able to find. The place of the marriages of the above would possibly be so very helpful. Any information would be wonderful.

Lydia Knabb married my ancestor Jacob Grant. I believe in the year of 1824. I would like to find out where and when Lydia was born, what church Jacob and Lydia were married in and their minister is possible.

Comment: I am researching three different surnames in the Berks County area: FITZWATER, SEAMAN, and BURKHOLDER. Specifically, I am looking into my mother's family history that says my great grandfather and his sister--Wallace Seaman (1876-?) and Mary Emily Seaman (1878-?)--were raised by his mother's Amish family, the Burkholders, after their mother (Emma) died. Their father, Percival Seaman (1849-?), was still living. The story goes that Wallace, on his deathbed, began speaking in Pennsylvania Dutch, and no one in the family could understand what he was saying. Hopefully I can make a connection on your website. Thanks!--
