Gallatin Grave - Springhill Twp.

Directions: Starting at the intersection of Rt 119 and New Geneva Road (Rt 166) at the north end of the bridge over the Cheat River in Point Marion, go north on New Geneva Road 2.8 miles and turn left into Friendship Hill National Park. Go 0.2 miles to a parking area on the left. About 50 feet further on, the trail is in the open field going to the left along the tree line. The walk is about 0.2 miles to the grave and back. When the trail branches, go right, cross the bridge, pass a pond on the right. The grave is a little further as the trail rises. It is surrounded by a stone wall and is easily seen as you approach it.

By local tradition, within this stone wall is the final resting place of Sophia Gallatin, wife of Albert Gallatin. However, at her request she was actually buried in an unmarked grave overlooking the Monongahela River.
