Ritter Cemetery - Cook Twp
Contributed by Donna and Peter <moulder@city-net.com>

According to family legend, Ritter Cemetery was established by Henry Ritter to bury his children who tragically died of diphtheria.  It became a burial ground for folks living in Cook Township and Jefferson Township.

Ritter Cemetery is secluded at 2575 feet above sea level in Cook State Forest on a one-lane road.  Use an all-terrain vehicle to avoid potholes, rocks, and branches.
There is a split-rail fence around the remaining headstones and footstones.  In general, inscriptions face Westmoreland County, but actual burials face the east as shown by depression in the ground.

Thanks to my grandma for her notes, a cousin for copying Hiram Knupp's map, and helpful historians at Chestnut Ridge, Somerset and Ligonier. For comments or corrections contact Donna
