Driving directions from the Hickory Street bridge in Warren (3 miles, 7 minutes): Drive east on Pennsylvania Ave W/US-6 (business route) to Market Street. Turn left on Market Street and drive north into North Warren. Turn left at a traffic light onto Jackson Run road (PA route 69). About 1/2 mile from the red light at the junction of Rt. 69 and Rt. 60 (Market St. Ext.), look for a large cluster of tall pine trees that mark the entrance on the north side of the hightway. Parking is ample in a designated area, just off the highway. Walking is the only way to access the cemetery which is on a gently sloping hillside.

Take a stroll through the cemetery...

To the left is the headstone of Ignatz Barczinski, with one date: May 6, 1926.
His Certificate of Death, file #62353, provides only slightly more information. He was a single white male, age 79, born in Poland.
He died of chronic myocarditis, with dementia (praecox?) as a contributory cause. There was no autopsy.
The informant on the death certificate was a doctor at the hospital, W. K. Skinner.

Almost 1,000 burials are listed on Find-A-Grave - Warren State Hospital Cemetery, some with photographs of individual tombstones.

The cemetery, neglected for years, was restored and rededicated September 26, 2008. Read the article Silent Witnesses from the Warren Times Observer.
