Lumber Companies in the County (Compiled by Lawson L. Duckworth) This will take some time to get everthing posted to this site that I would love to have posted. First thing I will do is list some of the Companies and Their Locations in the "1800's and Early 1900's". Whenever pioneers moved into the area, the first thing they needed was an "axe" and "saw" - these were inportant items because they had to build log homes and clear ground for gardens to raise food on. The very first labor on any homestead was cutting timber and clearing off the wilderness for those purposes. Even before farming these were items that needed done for the families to live. I feel that of all the "History that has been writen" the most over looked is the "Lumbermen and the Lumber Companies". Hence, I intend to report on the first of all "Bussiness's" in a "Wilderness Area" and there was only the one business "Logging and Lumber". There is a lot more and as I find them, I will list them.
