The township was formed from Somerset Township and incorporated in 1890. Principal towns include Que Creek and Sipesville.

Lincoln Township is located in the western portion of Somerset County. It is bordered on the north by Jenner Twp, west by Westmoreland County, east by Somerset and Quemahoning Twp and the south by Jefferson Twp.
