Welcome to the Monroe County, Pennsylvania Genealogical Research site.   This site is intended as an aid to the Monroe County, PA family history researcher. You are welcome to contribute any information you may have from the area to share with other researchers. Please contact n4zud@aol.com to do so.

Monroe County, Pennsylvania was formed from Pike & Northampton counties on April 1, 1836. The county was named in honor of James Monroe, fifth President of the United States.

Monroe's county seat is located in Stroudsburg, incorporated as a borough on February 6, 1815, and named for Colonel Jacob Stroud, a settler. He built a home for his son, which has been restored and now operates as a museum by the Monroe County Historical Association at the intersection of Ninth Street and Main Street.

The county clerk has marriage records from 1885, divorce records from 1844, and probate and civil court records from 1836.

USGenWeb sites on the Ancestry Rootsweb server are moving to a new server.  There is no time given as to when the websites will be back and available. At some point, Rootsweb links within the website will not work.  However, the Search feature does search the entire site.  In the meantime, volunteers are working hard to recreate websites and update links to publish free data.
