FRANK
C. JOHNSTON, engaged in the livery business in Sharpsville, was
born in Clarion county, Pennsylvania, October 30, 1877, a son of
Alexander and Elizabeth (McGee) Johnston, natives respectively of
Philadelphia and Jefferson township, Mercer county. They were married
in this county and their union was blessed by the birth of a daughter
and son, the former being Ida May, the wife of Michael
Stretch, of Philadelphia. Alexander Johnston has lived in Mercer
county since early manhood, his home being now in Jefferson township,
and after ten or twelve years of work at his trade of carriage painting
he turned his attention to farming in Jefferson township. He is a
member of the Presbyterian church and his politics are Democratic.
Frank
C. Johnston, the younger of the two children born to Alexander and
Elizabeth Johnston. attended the schools of Jefferson township and the
Clarksville high school, and later he attended the Y. M. C. A. night
school in Philadelphia and also served as night clerk in the Aberdeen
Hotel of that city. Returning to Mercer county in 1899 he assisted his
father in farming until he embarked in the livery business in
Sharpsville in 1906. He is now the proprietor of one of the best
equipped barns in the city.
On the 23d of May, 1901, Mr.
Johnston was united in marriage to Alice Koonce, who was born in
Hickory township, Mercer county, August 23, 1880, a daughter of Mathew
Henry and Selina E. (Clark) Koonce. The only child of this union is
Theresa Grace. Mr. Johnston is a member of Adoniram Lodge No. 739, I.
0. 0. F., and his political affiliations are with the Democratic party.
He is also a member of the Presbyterian church.
