FRANCIS E. NORRIS
- - A wide-awake, brainy man, possessing the de termination, knowledge
and qualifications that command success in the business world, Francis
E. Norris has become an important factor in promoting and advancing the
highest interests of Mercer county, and as superintendent of the
Carnegie Steel Company’s North and South Sharon Steel Works and
furnaces is filling the position of responsibility with marked ability.
Born in London, England, in 1871, Francis E. Norris acquired a liberal
education in his native city and at the School of Mines, Berlin,
Germany, making a special study of the manufacture of steel.
On
coming to the United States, Mr. Norris’ first employment in the steel
industry was at Troy, New York, where he remained for a while. Taking
up his residence in Sharon in 1898, he was for three years an inspector
of steel, and in 1901 assisted in making the first heat of the Carnegie
Steel Company’s plant in South Sharon. Since that time Mr. Norris has
been officially connected with this plant, and as its superintendent is
widely and favorably known throughout this section of the country as a
prime factor in promoting the interests of the steel trade.
Mr.
Norris married, November, 1904, Harriet, daughter of J. H. Townsend, of
Sharon, and their pleasant home is a center of social activity. Their
children are: Margaret H. and Elizabeth T. Fraternally, Mr. Norris is a
member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and the Consistory.
