Dr. Ernest F. Nelson


DR. ERNEST FRANK NELSON, a good representative of the younger generation of practicing physicians and surgeons, residing at Grove City, was born on a farm in Springfield township. Mercer county, Pennsylvania, September 3. 1869, a son of John S. and Elizabeth (Wadsworth) Nelson. The father was born and reared on the farm where he has long resided, in Springfield township. In the parents’ family seven children were reared and attended the country schools. Dr. Ernest F. attended the Grove City College two years, after which he attended the Pennsylvania State Normal School at Slippery Rock, from which most excellent educational institution he graduated in 1894. He left home at the age of fourteen years, since which time he has made his own way in life. For seven years he taught school in Mercer, Allegheny and Butler counties. He taught and attended various schools, thus properly preparing himself for entering the profession which seemed best suited to his tastes. He read medicine under Dr. George K. McAdoo, of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, as his preceptor. He also attended the Medico-Chirurgical College, graduating in 1899. He then practiced at Dempsytown, Venango county, Pennsylvania, for five years, after which he took a post-graduate course at the Philadelphia Polyclinic and then located permanently at Grove City in April, 1905.

The Doctor is a worthy member of the County, State and American Medical Societies and Association. In fraternal connections, he is an Odd Fellow, thirty-second degree Mason and a Shriner. He is an acceptable member of the United Presbyterian church. He was married July 16, 1895, to Illula Samilda Christley.
