DR. ADDISON F. CATTRON,
born in Laporte. Indiana, February 23, 1862, received his literary
training in the high school of that city, and then began preparation
for his life work by entrance at the Cleveland Medical College. He
completed the course at that well known medical institution and
graduated on the 16th of March, 1894. and on the following day, the
17th of March, he located in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, to begin the
practice of his chosen profession. He has met with success in his
chosen field, constantly demonstrating his ability to cope with
disease, and aside from his large and representative private practice
he is a member of the surgical staff of the F. H. Buhl hospital at
Sharon, this state. He is a member of the Mercer County Medical
Society, and in political matters upholds the principles of the
Republican party.
The parents of Dr. Cattron, Samuel and Nancy
N. (Concannon) Cattron, were born respectively in the state of New York
in 1824, and in Circleville, Ohio, in 1825. They became the parents of
six children, and five are now living, three sons and two daughters.
They are: Fannie, now Mrs. Johnson; James, superintendent of a gas and
coke company in Hazleton, Pennsylvania; William O., a graduate of the
Hahnemann Medical College, of Chicago, and now in practice in Pekin,
Illinois; Mae; and Addison E. Samuel Cattron, the Doctor’s
father, moved to Indiana with his parents when a child. His father was
born in Germany, an excellent German scholar, and coming to the United
States became one of the pioneer settlers on the Wabash river in
Indiana. His son Samuel in his early life played with the Indian
children near Michigan City, that section of the country being then in
its primitive state, and the first home of his own, built of logs, was
in the southern part of Laporte county. In that primitive home his four
eldest children were born, and in time the little log cabin gave place
to a frame residence. After a time, however, Mr. Cattron sold his farm
and, moved to the city of Laporte in order to afford his children
better educational advantages, and there he is now living a retired
life. In the early days he supported the principles of the Whig party,
and at the formation of the Republican party joined its ranks and was a
great admirer of Abraham Lincoln.
Dr. Addison F. Cattron married
Anna C. Fitzsimmons, October 27. 1886. She was born in Laporte in 1863,
a daughter of Michael and Kate (Tracy) Fitzsimmons, both of whom were
born in Ireland. On their arrival in the United States they located in
Laporte county, Indiana, and spent the remainder of their lives there.
Of their nine children five are living, namely: Edwin, Anna, Michael,
Thomas and John. Mr. Fitzsimmons was but a young man when be came to
this country, and he was with the I. P. & C. Railroad Company, now
the Lake Shore road, for many years, working in their shops. He was a
Democrat politically and a member of the Roman Catholic church. Six
children have been born to Dr. and Mrs. Cattron, but only four are now
living - - Margaret, Florence, Myltreda and Edwin.
