Aaron J. Moyer


Aaron J. Moyer, b. in Northumberland Co., Pa., Jan. 25, 1847; mrd. Rebecca Weaver, of Freeport, Armstrong Co., Pa. She was b. Oct. 9, 1853. While a boy Mr. Moyer attended public school and during vacation was on the lookout for small jobs of work, and was always in demand; at the age of 12 he became a farmer boy; at 14 was at work in a lumber mill at Williamsport, Pa., where he met with an accident that resulted in the loss of his left hand. After recovery he became a student in Williamsport Dickinson Seminary.

He enlisted in 37th Regt. Pa. Vol. for the Gettysburg campaign. He became a clerk in 1863, a school teacher in 1865, and continued clerking and teaching until 1872. He was also a teacher at Crescent, Corter's, Trout Run and South Williamsport, Pa., and was a student for one term (1869) in the Williamsport Dickinson Seminary. He became a bookkeeper for a lumber company at Freeport, Armstrong county, Pa., in 1872, and bookkeeper for the Mercer Mining and Manufacturing Company, at Pardoe, Mercer county, Pa., in 1874. Returned to Trout Run in 1875, taught school and learned telegraphy. In 1876 he became freight and ticket agent for the Shenango and Allegheny Railroad at New Hope, Butler county, Pa.; in 1879 he was transferred as agent to Pardoe, Pa.; in 1880 became freight and ticket agent for the Ohio Southern Railroad at Springfield, O.; in 1881 he was in the employ of the Champion Bar and Knife Company, Springfield, O.; in 1883 was employed by the Rogers' Iron Fence Company, Springfield, O.; in 1889 he organized the Springfield Agricultural Iron Works, in which he is (1896) manager and heavy stockholder. His restless business qualities struggled long for congenial conditions. Episcopal. Children: Aaron, F. Hughes, Rebecca, Frederick.

Aaron Joseph Moyer, Jr., b. in Pardoe, Mercer Co., Pa., May 27, 1874. He attended public school and then Wittenburg College, Springfield, O. In 1894 he entered Harvard University in the class of '96. After graduation he purposes to complete the course of the Harvard Law School. P. O. Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. Epis.

Fredelia Hughes Moyer, born in Trout Run, Lycoming Co., Pa., Jan. 12, 1876. Attended public school and then Wittenburg College, Springfield, O. In 1894 he entered Cornell University in the course of mechanical engineering. P. O. Cornell University, Ithaca, N. Y. Epis.

Rebecca Moyer, born in Pardoe, Mercer Co., Pa., Sept. 21, 1879. P. O. Springfield, O. Epis.

Frederick Weaver Moyer, b. in Springfield, O., Dec. 7, 1881. P. O. Springfield, O. Epis.
