I’m researching my paternal grandmother’s family.

Objective: Marriage of Anna Jane Goodwin To Theodore A Gillespie, possibly 1902 in PA.

ANNA J GOODWIN born 18 November 1883, at Bradford, McKean County, Pennsylvania, to Charles Gregory Goodwin and Emelie Sarah (Phillips) Goodwin. Father born Buffalo, Erie, New York, date 19 January 1854, son of Thomas Goodwin and mother Anna Jane Elliott. Baptized St. Bernard Catholic Church, Bradford, McKean County, Pennsylvania.

Her grandfather, along with her father, ran a successful Hotel and restaurant in Bradford. Many wills and graves of the Goodwin family are located there. They were members of the St. Bernard Catholic Church the years the families lived in Bradford before moving to Pittsburgh.

Anna Jane Goodwin was 10 years 5 months and 24 days old when her father died at the age of 41 years. Death of father, 11 May 1894, citing v74p.491, Allegheny County, Courthouse, Pittsburgh; FHL microfilm. Charles G Goodwin owned the Oil Exchange Restaurant. See Historic Pittsburgh http://digitallibrary.pitt.edu/ which has several references to and an image of the Pittsburgh Oil Exchange Building at 1113 Fourth Avenue, He owned the restaurant at the time of his death in Pittsburgh.

Ten years pass with no record on young Anna’s whereabouts.

Death Certificate, 28 November 1904, Philadelphia, location of death, of daughter, Annie May Gillespie, at Mannington, Marion County, West Virginia. Cause of death bronchial pneumonia.

In 1907, Delay Registration of son, by Annie Jane (Goodwin) Gillespie listed as mother. Theo Gillespie listed as father, on birth registration of son, Theodore Goodwin Gillespie, born 02 November 1905, Date of Return 01 January 1906, Date of Registration 28 May 1907 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania.

Anna Jane (Goodwin) Gillespie, listed in United States Census, living in household of family member as cousin, with son Theodore, newphew, four years, in Bradford, McKean County, Pennsylvania.

She died 04 June 1938 at Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas, at home, with husband Allen F. Elston by her side. Surviving her were her husband, Allen F Elston, two sons, Theodore G. Gillespie, born 02 November 1905, Donald G Hall, born 14 March 1915, and daughter Emily C Hall, used her step-father Allen F Elston, name, Emily H Elston, on her death index form.

She was born 28 February 1913, Texas, Died Orange Co. California, date 16 May 1972. Burial _____. Her occupation was nurse and singer. Emily H Elston’s death certificate and burial location are unknown. Mrs. Elston was buried 06 June 1938 at Calvary Cemetery, Pt. Arthur, Texas. Mr. Elson’s parents were Mr. & Mrs. Jefferson Davis Elston. Elston was Chief Engineer with Gulf Oil. I am willing to share information with others researching these family members. I need the marriage, death or divorce records of Anna Jane Goodwin and Theodore A Gillespie, and his parent’s names for a lineage society application.
