The following was written on a pale green 'souvenir' card, approximately in size...3-1/2 inches by 8 inches, and one card was given to each of the students. His or her name was written on the back along with the days present in class. To the best of my knowledge, this was a one-room schoolhouse teaching many grades.

1895 - 1896

Let fate do her worst, there are moments of joy
Bright dreams of the past, which she cannot destroy
Which come in the night-time of sorrow and care,
And bring back the features that joy used to wear.
