Kenneth N. Gower, engineer for IBM

RHINEBECK - Kenneth N. Gower, 78, a resident of Rhinebeck for 10 years and a previous resident of Wappingers Falls and West Pittston, Pa. died Monday at the Baptist Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. Mr. Gower was a mechanical engineer at IBM Poughkeepsie for 26 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, the Poughkeepsie Lodge of Masons and the Cypress Shrine in Albany. He was an officer of the Grand Lodge of New York state. He was also a member of the First Congregational Church of West Pittston. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Born Dec. 19, 1917, in West Pittston, he was a son of Otto A. And Pearl Traher Gower. He graduated from West Pittston High School in 1935 and earned his bachelor of science degree from Wilkes College, Wilkes Barre, Pa. in 1953. On June 26, 1943, in West Pittston, he married the former Connie Hill. She died in October 1991. Mr. Gower is survived by a son, Edward J. Gower of Rhinebeck; a daughter, Jane M. Gower of Houston; a brother, Willard Gower of New Holland, Pa.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Bernard Gower, and two sisters, Melba Moss and Audrey Bohn, died previously. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church, West Pittston. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in West Pittston cemetery. Arrangements are by White Funeral Home, 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck.
