William Ward
Died February 18, 1866, age 87 years.

WARD - On Sabbath morning, February 18, 1866, Mr. William Ward, of Wayne township, in the 87th year of his ge.

"Oh, it was meet, beloved friend!
 That on the Sabbath morn,
Thy sould should wing its flight to heaven,
 On angels' pinions borne,
And brightly broke that Sabbath day
 Upon thy raptured sight,
 In mansions of eternal bliss,
 And everlasting light"

The deceased was a native of Washington county, but had been, for over half a century, a resident of the township in which he died. - For many years, he was a worthy and consistent member of the slippery Rock Presbyterian Church; and for a number of years, had been its oldest member. In its time-honored grave yard, his body now waits for the resurection-

"Ripe for a crown, and waiting the reward
Of watching long the vineyard of the Lord."

Nothing could be more out of place than any extravagant eulogy upon the memory of a man of his proverbial plainness. He never flatterd another. Himself unassuming - aiming rather to be seen beofe God than GREAT before men - he despised pretention and show, in either old or young. He never aimed at public life, but adorned an humbler path by seeking opportunities of doing good. Hence, his memory will be longest cherished by those who felt his kindness. In politics, he was a Democrat of the Jefferson and Jackson school; and, in his very long life, he never faltered in the support of the principles he early avowed. During the recent troubles of our country, he always kept his confidence unshaken in the final restoration of the people to peace, union and prosperity - under a return to fraternal love, that had so long preserved the Union of the states.

He is dead and gone to his reward! May those who survive him emulate the varied virtues of which his long life was a living example!
