Sarah Carter Shook Stewart

Mrs. Sarah Stewart, aged 76, was found dead in bed this morning at the home of her son, Frank Shook of 512 Croton Avenue. Mrs. Stewart was apparently in her usual health yesterday and was down street during the afternoon.

Last night, before retiring she enjoyed some ice cream with other members of the family and was apparently in good spirits. Shortly after 7 o'clock this morning, her granddaughter, Mrs. W.H. Fleming went into her room and found Mrs. Stewart apparently dead. Dr. William Cleland was called but life was extinct. She had been troubled with heart disease and this is supposed to have been the cause of her death.

Mrs. Stewart was born near Lisbon, O., but came to New Castle when she was a child. She was first married to Jacob Shook who died in 1885. She was afterwards married to John C. Stewart who died some years ago. Surviving are the following children. Mrs. Jennie Beighley of Beaver Falls, Mrs. W.H. Evans of 708 South Mill Street, Frank Shook of 512 Croton Avenue, Jacob Shook who resides in the Fisher block, Long Avenue, and Mrs. Mattie Lightner of East Liverpool, O. One step daughter, Mrs. Lizie Essinger also survives.

Since the death of her second husband, Mrs. Stewart had made her home with her children, having been with her son on Croton avenue for the past 8 years.

She attended the Park Christian church and had many friends in this city who will be sorry to learn of her sudden death.
