Stewart, Lemuel B.
A BRIEF SKETCH

A BRIEF SKETCH

Of the Life of Lemuel B. Stewart, One of New Castle's Oldest Colored People

The following is a brief sketch of the life of the late Lemuel B. Stewart whose death was reported in yesterday's News.

He was an old and highly respected citizen, and well known throughout the city.

Lemuel B. Stewart was born in West Moreland county, Pa., in 1809. In 1830 he was united in marriage to Margaret Rouse, and four years later removed to Mercer county where he resided until 1849, when he came to live in New Castle, then but a small town. He resided here for the remainder of his life. To him and his wife were born seven children, of whom three are dead, and four living in Youngstown. Mr. Stewart was a consistent Christian, having been a member of the Baptist church for over sixty-four years. Ever since he removed here forty-four years ago, he has been connected with the Baptist church in this city.
