Robert McCandless
Born in 1812, Shenango Township, Pennsylvania
Died November 29, 1888, New Castle, Pennsylvania


With the death of 'Squire Robert McCANDLESS, which took place at his residence No 302 Pittsburgh street, this city, on the 29th ult., passed away one of Lawrence county's oldest and best known residents. Mr McCANDLESS was born in Shenango township 76 years ago, and resided the greater part of his life in that township. A few years ago he moved to New Castle, and lived here up to the time of his demise. The deceased had been for many years a consistent member of the M E Church, and had the respect of all who knew him. His death was the result of an attack of apoplexy. About 3 o'clock on the morning of the 28th ult., he resceived a paralytic stroke, and death took place on the next day, as above stated. He was married twice. his second wife survives him. His surviving children are Captain William McCandless, Robert McCandless, Leander McCandless, Mrs John CARPENTER, Miss Caroline McCandless and Miss Emma McCandless, of this city; Dr S T McCandless, of Alliance, O.; and Mrs G W EVANS, of Urichsville, O. The remains were interred from the family burying grounds on the farm in Shenango township where the deceased was born.
