Viola Shook Evans


Mrs. Viola Evans, aged 86, who resided with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bert P. Evans, 620 Lutton Street, died at the residence at midnight, last night, following a lingering illness.

Born in this city, August 10, 1866, she was the daughter of Jacob and Sarah Carter Shook. She spent her life time here and was preceded in death by her husband, W. H. Evans in 1932.

Mrs. Evans was a member of the Central Presbyterian church, the Willing Workers Class, Ladies Aide, Ladies Auxiliary of the V. F. W. Post No. 522 and L.A. to B. of R.T.

Surviving, are her children, Bert P. Evans, William R. Evans, this city; Mrs. Frank Greer, Oceanside, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Mattie Williams, this city.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, were a daughter, Mrs. May Hammond, in 1950, and a brother Frank Shook, March 1953.

Services will be held at the R. L. Boyd funeral home, 208 North Jefferson Street, Saturday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Henry B. Strock, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m.
