Mrs. J. W. Blum Died Yesterday.
Mrs. Emma Dotterrer Blum, wife of John W. Blum, died at the family residence, 410 North Franklin Street, at 12 o'clock noon Sunday. She had been in ill health for more than two years; following a serious operation at the Grove City hospital.

Mrs. Blum was daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. W. H. H. Dotterrer, and was born at Newton, Forest county, on September 12, 1875. On June; 12, 1900, she was united in marriage with Mr. Blum of Nebraska, Forest comity, who survives her with the following children: H. A. Blum of Youngstown, Ohio, Mrs. C, A. Weaver and Mrs. Harry Bodamer of this city, Marguerite and William Blum at home. Three children preceded her, including twins. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Anna S. Hunter of Erie, C. E. Dotterrer of Porters Falls, W. Va., Mrs. Mary Walters of Chehalis, Wash., Mrs. J. H. Walters of Ostrider, Wash., Harry B. Dotterrer of Tionesta, Mrs. Kathryn McNaughton of Warren and Mrs. J. Clyde Reed of Clarion; and two grandchildren, Richard and Mary Lou Bodamer, besides numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Blum was a devoted wife and mother, a patient sufferer and her first thoughts seemed always to be for others. She was a member of the First M. E. church since coming to Titusville in the spring of 1921, and a faithful attendant as long as her strength would permit. Services in her memory will be conducted from the First M. E. church, Wednesday, May 8, at 2 p. m., with Rev. Roy F. Howe, D. D., of Eric, officiating, assisted by the pastor, Rev. W. V. McLean. Friends may call at the home until noon, Wednesday. Interment will be in Woodlawn.

Henry Blum Dies Of Long Illness

  Henry Blum, 82, a member of the board of county commissioners of Forest county, tax collector for Tionesta township and a lifelong resident of that section, died at his home on German Hill, near Tionesta, Friday at 11 a.m.

Mr. Blum’s death followed an illness of a year and was attributed to a complication of diseases.

       He was born on German Hill June 6, 1854, a son of  Sebastian and Kathryn Matha Blum.  He had resided there his entire life and was a lifelong member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church of German Hill.

       On June 6, 1881, Mr. Blum married Katherine Elizabeth Eichenburg who survives with seven children:  Mrs. Ray Childs, Mrs. Jule  Shreve and Mrs. Harry Juan of Tionesta, Mrs. Max Sutley of Bradford; Forrest E. Blum of Texas and Howard and Froma Blum at home.  Twelve grandchildren also survive with two great grandchildren.

A prayer service will be held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock and will be followed by funeral services at the Mt. Zion Lutheran church at 3 o’clock.  Rev. Paul K. Scott of the Tionesta M. E. church will officiate.  Burial will be in the Mt. Zion cemetery.

Howard Blum, 88, Tionesta, Dies

  TIONESTA -- Howard Blum, 88, of Tionesta died Wednesday at the Grandview Convalescent Home in Oil City.

Born February 5, 1890, in Tionesta, he was a son of Henry and Kate Eichenberger Blum.  Mr. Blum was a veteran of World War I, and prior to his retirement, worked as a teamster and driller. He was married to the former Lenora Emert, who preceded him in death.  Mr. Blum is survived by two sons, William Blum of Aiken, S.C. and Henry Blum of Renovo; and by three daughters, Mrs. Edith I. Tucker of Tionesta, Mrs. Betty Martz of Kennerdell and Miss Janice Blum of Renovo.

Also surviving are a brother, Forest Blum of El Paso, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Sutley of Bradford and Mrs. Harry (Kate) Juan of Tionesta; along with 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Blum was preceded in death by a daughter; one brother, Lawrence; and four sisters, Effie and Sophronia Blum, Mrs. Arlene Shreve and Mrs. Mabel Childs.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the James K. Haslet Funeral Home in Tionesta.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday at the funeral home.  Rev. John Swartzfager will officiate at the services.  Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Tionesta.

DEATHS
John W. Blum
John W. Blum aged 71, died at 4:20 a. m. Thursday at the home of his daughter. Miss Marguerite Blum, 124 East Main street, following an illness of six weeks. He was born April 24, 1873, at Nebraska. Pa., a son of the late William and Mary Blum. He was reared to manhood in that neighborhood and on June 12, 1900, he married Emma Dotterrer at Clarion. They started housekeeping at Nebraska, where he was employed by the E. S. Collins lumber interests and in 1908 he moved to Kellettville, where he lived until 1921, when he came to Titusville. He was employed at the Oil Creek refinery and then operated the Oil Creek filling station at the corner of East Main and Central avenue for 16 years prior to his retirement. After May 5, 1935, when Mrs. Blum passed away, he made his home with his daughter, Miss Marguerite Blum.

He was a member of the First Methodist church and took great pride in the functions of the church. He was known by many as a kind and loving father and friend.

Mr. Blum leaves the following children: Marguerite, Howard of Youngstown, William of Titusville, Eva, wife of C. A, Weaver of Titusville, and Marie, wife of Harry Bodamer of Titusville: also four grandchildren, one of whom is Seaman First Class Richard Bodamer, in the South Pacific. The body was removed to the Tracy Home of Funerals, where friends may call and services will be conducted Monday at 2 p. m. Rev. Mark Parry of the First Methodist church will be in charge and interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

"MRS. FOREST BLUM -- A brief message was received Monday by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Blum, of Tionesta Township, from their son, Forest Blum, conveying the sad news of the death of Mrs. Forest Blum at three o'clock Monday morning, April 24th, at her home at Grand Junction, Colorado. It is surmised that her death came suddenly, as no word had come previously of her illness. She is survived by her husband."

This Mrs. Forest Blum died in 1933.  (Her first name was Nell)

Forest Alvin Blum

(1893-1983)

An obituary has not been located for Forest A. Blum yet but he was found in the Texas Death Index as having died on 20 Dec 1983 in Midland Co., TX.

He is buried in Twin Oaks Cemetery, Artesia, Eddy Co., NM beside Judy, his wife, who died in 1965.  At the time they were buried, the cemetery was named Restlawn.

Restlawn Cemetery (Twin Oaks Cemetery now), is located on State Road 2, North of Artesia, New Mexico in Eddy County. This cemetery was opened in 1955 and was called Restlawn Memorial Park. In June of 1986 it was changed to Twin Oaks Cemetery.

Elma Hunter Bundy

Penfield Woman Dies in Local Hospital

Mrs. Elma Hunter Bundy, 52, of Penfield, died in the Maple Avenue Hospital, on Thanksgiving after a brief illness.  She was born in Kellettville on October 21, 1897 and is survived by her husband, Morris Bundy, one daughter, Mrs. Florence Smith, a brother, Lewis D. Hunter and a grandson, Lloyd Paul Smith, Jr., in addition to numerous other relatives.  Funeral Services will be held in the Free Methodist Church at Penfield, on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with services conducted by Rev. Jefferson Miller and burial will be made in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, near Penfield.

RECENT DEATHS
Hon. J. G. Dale.
Tionesta, Aug. 17. -- (Special.)--Tionesta has been called upon to mourn the loss of one of its oldest and most highly respected citizens in the person of Hon. J. G. Dale. whose death occurred at 8:45 p.m., Tuesday.

Joseph Gates Dale, son of Rev. William and Mary (Gates) Dale, was born in Centre county, May 15, 1815. His father dying that same year, he was brought by his mother (a lady of highest Christian character) in 1816, to Tionesta, where he continued to be a resident for 82 years. For many years, he enjoyed the distinction of being able to date the commencement of his residence in Tionesta to an earlier date than any other inhabitant of the town, which may be said concerning his residence in the county as well.

Opportunities for mental improvement were few in the undeveloped and thinly settled country, but coming of an honorable and intelligent ancestry, it is not to be wondered at, that he overcame every obstacle and obtained an education that fitted him to hold the positions of honor and trust that he was called upon to fill during his life time.

He served a term as associate Judge of Forest county, and filled all the borough offices of consequence. He served as postmaster during the Lincoln administration, and during Johnson's term he held the position of department internal revenue collector. In 1836, he was appointed a lieutenant in the State militia commanded by Governor Ritner, and which position he held for two years.

Mr. Dale was a member of the J. O. O. F. since 1853, and a Freemason of high order for many years. He was engaged, during his lifetime, in lumbering, merchandise, banking and oil producing. It is a matter of record that during the early oil excitement he paid $105,000 for the Ball farm on Pithole, which proved to be good oil territory, and it is pleasing to note that the last years of his life were spent in peace and comfort.

Judge Dale was married on December 24, 1840, to Miss Nancy, daughter of Hon. Alexander Holeman, who still survives him and in the year 1890 they celebrated their golden wedding. Four children lived to manhood and womanhood and were present at his death: Mrs. B. M. Dewees, Mrs. J. C. Partridge, J. T. Dale and A. H. Dale. The funeral will be held on Friday at 2 p.m., and friends of the family are requested to be present.

Frances Drucilla Lemon

"Frances Drucilla Lemon Smith of Kane, Pa., died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Blauser of Kellettville, Pa., in the morning of
September 10. Funeral services were held at the home of the Blauser family the following Sunday, Rev. Decker of Tionesta officiating.
Mrs. Lemon was a consistent Christian and a good wife and mother.  She was united in marriage to Mr. Oliver P. Lemon on June 23, 1878
and was the mother of three daughters and one son, one daughter having gone before her. The interment will be at Kane on Monday."

Mrs. Shreve of Tidioute Area Dies

TIONESTA--Mrs. Arley M. Shreve, 77, of Tidioute RD 2, widow of Jule Shreve, died Saturday in Warren General Hospital.  She was born June 30, 1895, in Tionesta Township, a daughter of Henry and Kathrine Eichenburg Blum.

She is survived by a son, Forest E. Shreve, of Tidioute RD 2; two brothers, Howard Blum of Tionesta and Forest Blum of Artesia, N.M.; two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Katie) Juan of Tionesta and Mrs. Blanche Sutley of West Hickory; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the James K. Haslet Funeral Home in Tionesta with Rev. Gary Swogger, pastor of the Titusville Church of God, officiating.  Interment will be in the Mount Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

"Tionesta, Pa., Oct. 1 -- James Henry Smith, a well known resident of Nebraska, this county, and a valued employe of the T. D. Collins colate for the past 10 years, died at his home in that place on last Thursday evening at 5 o'clock, the cause of his death being cerebral hemorrage, after an illness of but three days duration. The deceased was a son of Henry and Nancy Smith, and was born at Tylersburg, Clarion county, June 5, 1853, where he attended the public schools and soon after reaching manhood he entered the lumber woods at Beaver Valley, in Hickory township, which vocation he followed most industriously all his life. On July 25, 1875 he was joined in marriage to Miss Jane Smith, also of Tylersburg, and they were the parents of four children, all of whom have gone on before. Mr. Smith was blessed with a kind and loving disposition, was a general favorite and well liked by all our people, being particularly sympathetic in his nature and ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in trouble or distress. Twenty-nine years ago the first of last July he had the misfortune to have the bones of both lower limbs badly crushed by being run over by a log car. Contrary to the best judgment of two physicians he declined to have the injured limbs amputated, and after a period of nine weeks he almost fully recovered, since which time he has lived a most active and industrious life. Besides his wife he is survived by two brothers and two sisters, as follows: Mrs. Winnie Archer, of Rouseville, Pa.; Mrs. Perry Lemon, of Kane, Pa.; Edgar Smith, of West Hickory, and Jacob Smith, of Tylersburg. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Episcopal church and his pastor, Rev. J. E. Allgood, conducted funeral services in his memory in the church at Nebraska on Saturday at 1 p.m. The pallbearers were E. L. Dewoody, Fred McNaughion, James Thompson, Lewis Geiser, J. N. Allison and Frank Combs. The interment took place in Riverside cemetery."

Blanche Sutley

Mrs. Blanche R. Sutley, 91, of 63 1/2 W. Washington St. died Saturday in Bradford Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.  Born July 9, 1888, in Tionesta, she was the daughter of Henry and Catherine Eichenberg Blum. On April 2, 1912, in West Hickory, she married Max B. Sutley, who died in 1960.

Mrs. Sutley attended Tionesta schools and moved with her family to Bradford in 1923.
Surviving are a son, Max B. Sutley of Bradford; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Vanderwende of Erie; one sister, Mrs. Katie Jaun of Pleasantville; a brother, Forest Blum of Anthony, N.M.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Willard Sutley, died in 1974.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today in the Galati Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Jack Christner, pastor of the First Union Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will be in the McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.

MAX B. SUTLEY, RETIRED TRANSIT EMPLOYEE, DIES

Max Bertwell Sutley, 71, of West Hickory, Pa., died at 4:15 p.m. Sunday in Bradford Hospital where he had been a patient for four days.  Mr. Sutley was enroute to his home from Bradford when he was stricken last Thursday. He pulled into a filling station at Kinzua and an attendant took him to Bradford Hospital.

Born Aug. 19, 1888, at Fagundas, Forest County, Pa., Mr. Sutley was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stowe Sutley. He attended schools there. He lived for 34 years in Bradford and for 21 years he was an employee of the Bradford Transit Co., Foster Brook, retiring three years ago. He then moved to West Hickory.

He married Blanche Blum in Warren April 2, 1912.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Max B. Sutley Jr., Bells Camp, and Willard H. Sutley of Foster Brook; one daughter, Mrs. Richard Vanderwende of Erie; two sisters, Mrs. Carl Jones, East Hickory, and Mrs. Edith Gilbert, Cambridge Springs, Pa.; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Healy Funeral Home starting this afternoon. On Tuesday morning, Mr. Sutley will be taken to the Rhodes Funeral Home, Tionesta, Pa. Burial will take place in Mt. Collins Cemetery, Tionesta. Funeral services are incomplete.

Hon. Samuel S. Towler.
Tionesta, Pa., June 18.--(Special.)--Hon. Samuel S. Towler, one of the best citizens of Forest county, died at his home in Marienville this morning. The deceased has practiced medicine since 1868, and was extensively interested in the oil development of the county.

Mr. Towler was born in Manchester, England, June 6, 1843, and was a son of Rev. William and Mary (Phillips) Towler, who came to America in 1845, and located in New York city, where the father had charge of a Methodist church. He was reared in Canada until 17 years of age, and was educated in the Toronto Model school. In 1860 he located in Cleveland, O., and remained there until 1863, when he went to the quartermaster's department at Nashville, Tenn., and was honorably discharged in 1865. He read medicine with Drs. Mahaffey and Hickman, of Cleveland, and graduated from the University of Michigan in 187?. He first began to practice at Reynoldsville then moved to Millerstown, Butler county, Pa., and in 18?8 came to Marienville, where he has since practiced his profession. In 1873 he married Miss Clara B. Hunt, whose death occurred some two weeks ago. One daughter, the wife of Dr. A. E. Stonecipher, and one son, Harry, survive him. He was a Republican in politics and was twice elected a member of the assembly, first in 18?1, and again in ??????ing a member of that body at the time of his death. He was an elder in the Presbyterian church at Marienville, and superintendent of the Sabbath school for the past 12 years. It was while conducting the childrens day service in that church on last Sunday evening that he suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which he never recovered, death finally ending his sufferings at 1:15 o'clock on Tuesday morning. He was truly a great public benefactor in every sense of the word, being a great friend of the poor, and his death will be generally regretted by a large circle of acquaintances. The burial takes place from his late home in Marienville at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon.

The Democrats of Forest county, in convention at Tionesta, on Tuesday passed the following resolution on the death of Mr. Towler:

"We learn with profound sorrow of the death of Hon. S. S. Towler, our present representative in the Legislature, in whose death the county has lost one of its most active citizens, whose death following so closely that of his esteemed wife, has cast [unreadable line] munity in which he resided, and we extend our sympathies to his bereaved family."

Edith Blum Tucker

Edith Iona Blum Tucker, 81, of Tionesta, relative of a Kennerdell resident, died Friday, Feb. 25, 1994, in the West Unit of Northwest Medical Center at Franklin.

Born Jan. 26, 1913, in Tionesta, she was a daughter of Howard E. and Dolly Emert Blum.

Mrs. Tucker formerly had been employed at Hallers Service Station in Tionesta for more than 25 years.

Her husband, Harry K. Tucker, died in 1974.

Surviving are three sons, James K. Tucker and Harry E. "Ed" Tucker, both of Tionesta, and Larry L. Tucker of Greenville; a daughter, Nancy T. Lauer, of Sharon; and 10 grandchildren, Dixie Tucker, Eddie Tucker, Jim Tucker, Nathan Tucker, Robert Lauer, Karen Watson, Edith Michelle Taylor, Kendra Loreno, Christi Phillips and Cody Tucker.

Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren; a half sister, Betty Martz of Kennerdell; and a lifelong dear friend, Pauline Bisker of Tionesta.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by a half brother, William Blum, and a sister Lenora Blum.

The Haslet-Wimer Funeral Home, Tionesta, is in charge of arrangements.

H. A. Zuendel, Forest County Native, Dies

TIONESTA--Howard A. Zuendel, 76, of Bradford, a native of Forest County and former oil driller in the Bradford fields, died in the General Hospital in Olean, N.Y., at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Mr. Zuendel, was born in Green Township, Forest County, June 26, 1889, a son of George and Kate Blum Zuendel.  He was a World War I veteran. Mr. Zuendel is survived by two brothers, Lawrence Zuendel of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Harl Zuendel of Starr. Friends may call at the Maurice V. Rhodes Funeral Home in Tionesta from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday with interment to follow in the Zuendel Cemetery at Starr.
