Small Family Grave Sites, Jay Township (Rothrock, Kincaid, Denison, Goff/Gray Hill)

Rothrock Grave Site
Jay Township
Elk County PA

In July 2009, Jim Burke and Bob Nay of the Mt Zion Historical Society searched for the Rothrock Grave Site and after some difficulty found it off 100' north of Route 555 ( about 300' west of the Caledonia Road intersection). (Rothrock Grave Site located on private land formerly Scott Farm property.) All we found was one tombstone as listed below. We suspect others to be there but this area was heavily covered with bushes we could not find them. This is in line with information from Caskey's Cemetery Bok of Elk County. If you have other information that was missed or misread please let me know.

Many thanks to Sally and Iris Caskey to allow us to share this information from their Cemeteries and Burial Plots of Elk County Pennsylvania. Also thanks to Jim Burke and the Mt Zion Historical Society. This listing is not necessarily an exact translation of the gravesite transcriptions because of these changes and many of these gravestones are very difficult to read or unreadable. But the intent is to share those that can best identify as being buried here. If you have other information that was missed or misread or updated please let me know.

Dension Plot located along Spring Run Creek. A four minute walk along a trail to the right of the Creek or beaver dam, entering trail from the township road. The plot is situated on the right of the trail, around second slight curve.

Markers with initials: ERD, CED, CSD, SD The Dennison Family Plot has three broken and desecrated grave stones. Hopefully at some future date someone will attempt to upgrade some of these sites.

The Potter Goff Family Plot on Gray Hill Road(41.30N, 78.45W) only has two readable grave stones. There must be at about 23 gravestones of native rock which have no information except to identify a grave site. I'm sure this story can be repeated by all those who have visited the cemeteries of our ancestors.
