This Indenture made the Twelfth Day of December in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine between Mary Patterson of the County of Cumberland in the State of Pennsylvania Widow, Robert Patterson of the same place yeoman, John Patterson of the same place yeoman and James Patterson of Lowdon County in the state of Virginia yeoman by his attorney the said Robert Patterson, and Charles Bell of the same place yeoman and Hannah his wife ( Late Hannah Patterson) of the one part and Michael Christ of the Township of Exeter in the County of Berks in the State of Pennsylvania yeoman of the other part. Whereas Robert Matthews and Mary his wive by indenture under their hands and seals bearing Date the twelfth Day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty four recorded at Reading in Book A Vol 1 page 146 for the consideration therein mentioned did grant & confirm unto Robert Patterson in his life time a certain messuage or tenement and tract or piece of land lying in Exeter aforesaid beginning at a corner of Daniel Gate's land and running thence by Joseph Kirkbridge's land with twenty degrees west one hundred and fifty right perches thence by Robert Matthews land the place courses following viz: South seventy degrees east thirty nine perches and another pinch thence north twenty degrees east seventy two perches and an half thence south seventy degrees east thirty nine perches thence by Gunard Sadler's land north twenty degrees east eighty five perches and an half to a small hickory mark for a corner, thence by Daniel Cole's land north seventy degrees west seventy nine perches to the place of beginning containing sixty acres with the appurtenances to hold the same to him his heirs and assigns forever by force and virtue of which said recited indenture or of some other good conveyances and assurances the law duly had and executed the said Robert Patterson became in his lifetime lawfully seised in his desmene as of — of and in the said messuage and tract of land with the appurtenances and being so thereof seised departed this life having first made his Last Will and Testament in writing bearing Date the Fifth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy six wherein (amongst other things) he did give and devise the said messuage and tract of land unto his wife the late Mary Patterson during her widowhood and in case she should live unmarried during her natural life then at her decease he did give and devise the whole amongst his five children viz: the said Robert, Abigail (since deceased) James, Hannah and John to be equally divided amongst them as by the said in pass recited Will since his decease duly removed and remaining in the registers Office at Reading recourse being there unto had more fully and at large appears. Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said Mary Patterson Robert Patterson John Patterson and James Patterson (by his attorney the said Robert Patterson) and Charles Bell and Hannah his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and thirty three pounds specie to them in hand paid by the said Michael Christ at and before th ensealing and delivery thereof the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and thereof acquit and forever discharge the said Michael Christ his heirs executors and administrators by these Presents have and each did every of them hath granted bargained sold release and confirmed and by these Presents do and each and every of them and to heirs and assigns all the estate and estate rights the interest property claim and demand whatssoever of them the said Mary Patterson Robert Patterson John Patterson James Patterson Charles Bell and his wife in law or equity or otherwise now forever of in to at out of the land messuage or tenement and above described tract or piece of sixty acres of land and of and in all and singular the buildings improvements ways woods waters watercourses rights liberties privileges hereditaments and appurtenances what forever thereunto belong or in anywise appertaining and the rivers and remainders rents uses and profits thereof to have and to hold all and singular the premises hereby named or mentioned any interests to be with the appurtenances unto the said Michael Christ his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behalf of the said Michael Christ his heirs and assigns for ever and the said Mary Patterson Robert Patterson John Patterson and James Patterson and Charles Bell and Hannah his wife and their heirs respectively by the said hereby granted premises with the appurtenances unto the said Michael Christ and his heirs and assigns against them the said Mary Patterson Robert Patterson John Patterson and James Patterson and Charles Bell and Hannah his wife and their heirs respectively and against all or every other person and persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim for or under them or any or either of them shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents in witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto interchangeably set their hands and seals Dated the day and year first above written Mary Patterson {seal} Robert Patterson {seal} John Patterson {seal} James Patterson {seal} Robert Patterson {seal} Sealed and Delivered {the words John Patterson of the same place yeoman and between the first and second lines being interlined and the name and addition Charles Bell and Hannah his wife as often as the same have been obliterated } the said Robert Patterson signing with the names and sealing with the seal of his constituent James Patterson and signing and sealing with his own name and seal in the presence of us Hon. Laverty Collinson Read. Berks County be it remembered that on the twelfth day of December Anno Domini 1789 before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Berks came the above named Mary Patterson Robert Patterson and John Patterson and acknowledged the above indenture to be their act and deed and defend that the same might be recorded as such according to law witness my hand seal the day and year aforesaid
