Last Will and Testament of Jonas Jones

Amity Township, Berks County, PA, January 23, 1777

In the Name of God Amen I Jonas Jones of the Township of Amity in the County of Berks, Yeoman being advanced in years and weak in body, but of sound disposing mind and memory praised be Almighty God for the same and all other his Mercies and considering the certainty of Death and the uncertainty of the time thereof do make and put in writing this my last will and testament in manner & form following, this is to say Item I do give and bequeath unto my Daughter Margaret Bunn wife of Nicholas Bunn forty pounds to be paid in one year after my decease, Item I give and bequeath unto my son Mounce forty pounds to be paid in two years after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Molly forty pounds to be paid in three years after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Susannah forty pounds to be paid in four years after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Nicolas forty pounds to be paid in five years after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Pheby forty pounds to be paid in six years after my decease and on woman's saddle two cows and half of all my household goods and furniture. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Christian forty pounds to be paid in seven years after my decease and one woman's saddle two cows and one half of all my household goods and furniture. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Jonathan forty pounds to be paid in eight years after my decease. Item I do give and bequeath unto my son Jonas Jones all my Plantation and tract of land situate in the Township of Amity in the County of Berks, containing two hundred acres of land be the same more or less together with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to hold to him my said son Jonas Jones his heirs and assigns forever.

I give and bequeath unto my said son Jonas my four horses all my horned cattle (except for four cows) all my sheep, hogs waggon, plows, gears and all the implements of husbandry belonging to the premises after my decease together with all the grain on the premises mark or unthrashed and in the ground and one feather bed and one chest beds with beding. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Molly during her natural life two acres of ground being part of my Plantation to be prepared for Meadow at her own cost and after death I give and bequeath the said two acres of ground unto my son Jonas Jones his heirs and assigns for ever, my said daughter Molly is to have her firewood of said Plantation during her natural life and I do nominate and appoint my son Jonas Jones to be the executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former and other wills heretofore by me made and do declare this to be my only last will and testament in witness whereof I the said Jonas Jones the testator have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty third day January in the year of our Lord 1777.
