Last Will and Testament of Godfrey Fick

1821: Alsace Township, Berks County, PA

In the name of God Amen, I Godfrey Fick, of Alsace township in the County of Berks Yeoman, being of an advanced age but in perfect health of body and of sound mind memory and understanding, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my last Will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say

Principally and first of all I recommend my immortal Soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a descent and Christian like manner, at the discretion of my Executors herein after named, And as to such worldly estate __ with it hath pleased God to bless me in this life ___ and dispose of the same in manner following to wit,

First, I order and direct that all my just debts and funeral expences be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be done after my decease, by my Executors herein after named.

Secondly. I give and devise unto my Son Peter Fick, and to his heirs and assigns for ever, All my Messuage or tenement and tract of land situate in Alsace township Berks County, bounded by lands of Adam Hahn, Daniel Rodenberger, Widow Catharine Shull, Adam Herbolt, Mark, John Biddle Esquire, and others, containing fifty seven acres and sixty perches, be the same more or less which said land and tenement, I give unto him the said Peter Fick his heirs and assigns in consideration for his services to me rendered, and the sums of money which I obtained from time to time from him, and particularly when the Proprietaries claim was settled.

And as to all the rest, residue and remainder of my Estate, of what kind or nature soever the same may be and wheresoever the same may be, I give and devise the same unto my Children adn lawful issue thereof, that is to say unto John Fick, one sixth part thereof; from which shall first be deducted what sums he has heretofore received from me, unto Peter Fick one other sixth part thereof, unto Maria Elizabeth, intermarried with John Matz, one other sixth part thereof; unto Margaret Diehl intermarried with John Diehl, one other sixth part thereof; unto Barbara Wiest, (widow and relict of Jacob Wiest deceased) one other sixth part thereof, and to the children of my daughter Elizabeth who was intermarried with Peter Zuber, one other sixth part thereof,

And lastly I nominate, constitute and appoint my Son Peter Fick, and Matthias Richard of the Borough of Reading to be the Executors hereof, hereby revoking all other Wills, legacies and bequests by me heretofore made and declaring this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I the said Godfre Fick have hereunto set my Hand and Seal, the thirtieth day of July, One thousand, eight hundred and twenty one.

Signed, Sealed, published, pronounced and declared by the said Testator as and for his Last Will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses
