Last Will and Testament of John Barr

Proved June 25th, A.D., 1875: Berks County, PA

Proved June 25th, A.D., 1875 and on the 26th day of June A.D. 1875, Letters Testamentary in Common form were granted unto D. F. Bear, Henry W. Bear, and Levi K. Balthaser, the Executors in the Will named they having first been duly qualified thereto. Died in Bern Township on the 12th day of June A. D, 1875 at 7 1/4 P.M. Recorded in Vol. 13, page 113.

I John Barr, of the Township of Bern in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind, memory, and understanding, but weak in body, do make and Publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following to wit. -

1st. It is my Will that all of my Just Debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon as can be after my decease.

2nd. It is my Will, and do ordain that my wife Anna [Williams] shall have the Farm on which we now reside containing forty acres or thereabouts during her life with all income and farming Stock whatever she has need for, and after her, my said wifes death, the said Farm shall be sold on Public Sale by my hereinafter executors and the money or proceeds thereof shall be divided among my children their heirs and assigns share and share alike.

3rd. It is my Will, and do ordain that the Farm now in the possession of Elias Shall, containing forty three acres or thereabouts, shall be sold on Public sale by my hereinafter executors, as soon as can be after my decease, and the money arising therefrom, after my Just Debts be paid, shall be divided among my children their heirs and assigns, share and share alike.

4th. It is my Will , and do ordain, that my grand child Helan [Rothenberger], daughter of my daughter Sarah [Balthaser], shall have Two hundred dollars, from the share of my daughter Sarah, coming to her our of the farm bequeathed to my wife, at the time of my said wifes death, aforesaid, and if the said Helan Should die before my said wife, then the said Two hundred dollars shall revert to my daughter Sarah.

5th. It is my Will, and do ordain, that my and all my real estate shall be sold by my executors at Public sale as aforesaid, and without being appraised, and deeds given by the said executors.

And lastly I appoint my sons Daniel, and Henry and Levi Balthaser, to be the executors of this my last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof, I the said John Barr, have hereunto set my hand and seal the Twenty second day of May A. D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy five.

Death notice in the Reading Adler : On June 12, in Bern, death of John Bear, husband of Anna Eva Williams, of consumption and dropsy. Aged 60 years, 9 months, 20 days. At 7:15 in the morning, after a long illness.
