Last Will and Testament of Henry Adam

Richmond Township, Berks County, PA: 1814

In the name of God, Amen. I, Henry Adam of Richmond Township in the County of Berks & State of Pennsylvania being weak in Body, but of sound Mind Memory & understanding Do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following to Wit, Principally I commend my Soul to God who gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian like manner, and as to such Worldly Estate as I possess in this Life, I give and dispose of the same in the following manner, To wit . . . It is my Will that if I should die before my Wife that as soon as convenient after my decease all my Working Tools, Horse (if any) Farming Utensils and such Household Furniture as my said Wife may not wish to retain for her own use shall be sold and the Monies arising therefrom to be applied in the same manner as the Monies hereafter arising from the Sale of the remainder of my Estate.

Item, It is my Will that after the decease of myself and my said Will, that the whole of my Estate then remaining shall be Sold be the same Real or Personal and at Public Vendue, and the Monies divided among my Children & their Heirs in manner following, to wit the one sixth part arising from the above ordered Sales to be divided between, John Minker late the Husband of my daughter Maria deceased and her Children by him share & share alike, . . one sixth part to my daughter Rosina, the Wife of Jacob Graeff subject to a deduction of Fifty Pounds advanced to said Jacob Graeff together with Interest from the time I charged him with the same in my Book - one sixth part to my daughter Catharine the Wife of Michael Shaffer - one sixth part to my daughter Elizabeth the Wife of John Remer, one sixth part to my son Jacob Adam - and the Interest of the remaining sixth part to be paid to my son John Adam Yearly during his natural Life and the Principal to be paid to his Heirs after his decease And lastly I nominate Constitute and appoint my Son Jacob Adam to be the sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby Revoking all other Wills Legacies and Bequests by me heretofore made and declaring this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Eighteenth day of June in the Year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and fourteen.

This 5th Day of September, AD 1814 Before me Jacob Schneider Esqr Register for the Probate of Wills and granding Letters of Administration in and for Berks County, Personally appeared Abraham Mengel & Jacob Rothermel the subscribing Witnesses to the above Will, and being duly sworn according to Law, did depose and say, that they were present and saw and heard Henry Adam the Testator, Sign, Seal, publish, pronounce and declare the foregoing instrument of writing as and for his Testament and Last Will, and that at the time of so doing he was of perfect and Sound Mind, Memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge, Observation and belief
