Last Will and Testament of William Lewars

Perry Twp 1857

In the Name of God Amen, I William Lewars, of Perry Township and County of Berks in the State of Pennsylvania, carpenter, being weak in body, but of sound mind, memory and understanding: But considering the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make and publish this, my last will and testament, in manner and form following, to wit:

First, It is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my decease.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Elizabeth so much of Bedding, household furniture and kitchen utensils, as she may choose to keep for her own use, to be taken by her before appraised.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Amilia Temson H Lewars one Bed and the necessary Bedding for the same, and my watch.

Item, It is my will and I do so order and direct that the remainder of y personal property of every description shall be appraised by two respectable citizens chosen by my Executors herein after named and the salable articles, and all y land shall, as soon as conveniently can be after my decease, be sold by my Executors hereinafter named, at public sale for the best price that can be got for the same upon such terms and conditions as they might think proper and for that purpose, I do hereby authorize and empower my said Executors, or the survivors of them, to sign, seal execute and acknowledge, all such deed or deed of conveyance, as may be requisite and necessary for the granting and assigning the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof in fee simple: and the monies arising from such sales, and the rest of my estate whatsoever the same may be or consists of shall after deducting necessary expenses and payment of debts, be paid over to my said wife Elizabeth by my Executors hereinafter named as soon as they have finally settled up my estate. And upon the receipt thereof y said wife Elizabeth shall give the necessary release, to my hereinafter named Executors, which shall be in full discharge of their Executorship, and what remains after the decease of my said wife Elizabeth shall after the decease be equally divided to and among all my eight children or their heirs share and share alike.

And lastly, I nominate, constitute and appoint Isaac H Mohr Esqr. And Benjamin Seidel to be the Executors of this my will, hereby revoking all other wills, legacies and bequests, by me heretofore made. And declaring this, and no other, to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, the Twenty First Day of March in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Four.
