Last Will and Testament of Nicholas Arnold

1781 Greenwich Twp.

In the Name of the Holy Family, in the Name of God the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost Amen. I Nicholas Arnold prove hereby my Last Will & Testament by witnesses personally present. As I here lying sick, but nevertheless by my good & full understanding how it shall be left after my Decease what Demand I have as yet such I shall Amen to my Last Will.

My Children that are yet alive, as two Sons. Namely Peter & John Nicholas and four daughters as namely Catharina, the second Magdalena the third Susanna of which the two sons shall have each of them two shares of my Estate the three daughters shall each og them have one share of my Estate but the other or fourth daughter shall be no heir of my Estate because she has already received her Legacy.

After my Decease my Estate shall be sold by Public Vendue because I Nicholas Arnold at present lying very sick by my brother Phillip Arnold after ??mone appearance will be end my Life in his this ??????? so is also this my Will that my brother Phillip Arnold shall tend and bury me in a Christian Like Manner and for the attention and burying, my brother Phillip shall first of all be paid out of my Estate and the remainder to my five children as above written shall divide the same among themselves uprightly and peaceably.

Also my brother Phillip Arnold shall first of all have the best bed as under and upper bed also beds to and pillows all belonging to a bed and keep the same for his own.

This is by me Nicholas Arnold this 8th January on the year of our Lord 1781, by me in the presences of witnesses established and sealed to my Last Will, that such after my Decease, shall be done and kept. All such God will grant the same for the sake of his Loving Son Jesus Christ. And grant me a Happy End, Amen.

A true translation of the German Original

Registers Office in Berks County the tenth day of March 1781 personally appeared Benedict Koller and Casper the two subscribing witnesses to the above written Will and upon their Solemn Oath on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God did Severally Depose and say that they were present and saw and heard Nicholas Arnold the Testator herein named sign by making his mark, Seal Pronounce Publish and Declare the within writing to be his Last Will and Testament and that at the time of doing thereof he was of sound mind memory and understanding as they verify believe who in the presence of each other subscriber their names respectfully as witnesses thereto at the request and in the presence of the Said Testator
