Last Will and Testament of Michael Moll

The undersigned Michael Moll, of Maidencreek Twp., Berks Co., and State of Pennsylvania; although I am infirm and sickly, yet of good understanding, memory, thought, and with power of decision, yet, even so as I had possession thereof in my days of good health, for which I heartily thank God. In thinking that all persons must die, and that the time is unknown; and that a person, at any time, must be prepared to leave this world, I make and declare by these presents, my last will and testament, namely:

Firstly, I commend my eternal soul, into the hands of God, to his eternal mercy; and, my body to the Earth, which, to the satisfaction of my hereafter named executors, shall be buried in the Christian manner. Concerning my worldly estate consisting of a farmstead situate in Maidencreek Twp., said county, and in assorted movable possessions; so do I bequeath everything to my only son, David, and to my beloved wife, Maria, in the following manner:

That my wife shall have the half of it for as long as she lives, and the other half shall belong to my son, David. If, however, my wife dies, so shall the whole belong to my son, David, with this condition; that, he, my son, shall pay the sum of two hundred dollars to my grandson, Michael Adam, who is yet a child, though not until my grandson reaches his 21st year. Should, however, my said grandson die before his 21st year, so shall the above fall back to my son, David.

My sisters daughter, named Sarah Weber, who has lived in my house since her 4th year, when reaching her lawful age of 21, shall have a cow, a bed, a bureau, and a cupboard. All this my wife, my son, David; and, the said Sarah shall have in common.

Lastly, I do note that in case my son, David, should die without heirs, then my grandson, Michael Adam, shall inherit everything, but not until after the death of my wife, and it shall be known that she will retain full right over her above half for as long as she retains my name.

Last. I ask of, Samuel Kind, or if he does not wish to take guardianship of my grandson, Michael Adam, then I ask my brother, David Moll, Sr., to assume guardianship.

I name my son, David, and my brother, David Moll, Sr., as executors of my last will and testament.

I declare again, by these presents, on a single page of paper, that I, with my own hand have set my mark and affixed my seal to this my last will and testament. So done on the Tenth day of July, in the year of Our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty.

The testator unable to will witness with his mark.

Michael (his mark) Moll (seal)

Undersigned, sealed, and declared as the last will and testament of the above undersigned Michael Moll.
