Last Will and Testament of Jonathan Hinkel

Maidencreek Township, Berks County, 1851

In the name of God amen, I Jonathan Hinkel of Maidencreek Township Berks County and state of Pennsylvania, farmer, Being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind, memory and understanding, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following to wit:

First, It is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral expense be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my decease

Item, I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Sebilla one bed and with the necessary bedding for the same, Together with such of my household furniture and kitchen utensils as she may choose to keep for her own use to be in lieu of her dower in my household furniture and after her death the same shall descend unto my son Jonathan and my daughter Catharine for their sole proper use and behalf forever..

Item, I give and bequeath unto my wife Sebilla her right and privilege to have her occupation to live in my house during her life with my son Jonathan and my daughter Catharine, and they shall give her boarding, clothing and all necessaries of life during her life.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my son Jonathan and my daughter Catharine my farm situate in Maidencreek Township aforesaid adjoining land of Thomas Pearson, Joseph Bosler, land of my son Jonathan, Jacob Rothermel & others, Containing thirty-two acres more or less, together with one dwelling and barn, including the improvements thereon,

Item, I give and bequeath unto my son Jonathan one Mare, Plough, Harrow, Wagon and Two-hundred dollars in cash, and the remainder of my personal property of every description, I give and bequeath unto my son Jonathan and my daughter Catharine subject to the payment of the hereafter mentioned two-hundred & ten dollars.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my oldest daughter Mary (married) to Peter Hummel, the sum of two-hundred dollars to be paid to her out of my Estate one year after my decease which shall be her full portion out of my estate.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Rebecca (married) to Daniel Young, the sum of Ten Dollars, which shall be paid to her out of my Estate one year after my decease, which shall be her whole and full portion out of my whole estate.

Item, I give and is my will that provided my dear wife Sebilla declining to have her home with my son Jonathan and my daughter Catharine, that son Jonathan and my daughter Catharine shall give her yearly fifty pounds good beef and one hundred pounds pork, five bushels wheat and five bushels rye, yearly to be delivered unto her at her request.

And lastly, I nominate, constitute and appoint Samuel Hoffman and my son Jonathan to be the Executors of this my last will, hereby revoking all other wills, legacies and bequests by me heretofore made and declaring this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this First day of June A,D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-One
