Last Will and Testament for Johannes Henrich Faust

In the name of God, Amen.

I, John Faust, of Heidelberg Township, in the County of Berks, in the state of Pennsylvania, Yeoman, being sick in body, but of sound mind, and perfect understanding. Thanks be given to God for the same. And calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, to make and ordain, this my last will and testament, that is to say, principally and first of all recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, and my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian-like manner.

It is my will, and I do hereby order that all my just debts and funeral charges be honestly paid and adjusted, it is my will that my mother shall stay on my place as long as she shall live and shall have her tower as here to fore. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Magdalena two beds and bed skirts, one chest, and the choice of iron pots. Two of them and one frying pan. My beloved wife shall have three butter benes and the choice of four earthen (????) and the choice of six butter blades, and six butter label spoons. She shall have the choice of six earthen blades, and two bushels of choice of the whole. My beloved wife will have the choice of two cows out of my stock; she shall have the choice of two sheep out of my stock, and she shall have the choice of two hogs out of my stock. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife all of the linens of flask, and all the wool and yarn. What is here present my beloved wife shall have of this year: flask, exceed what my son John and my daughter Polly shall have. I further bequeath unto my beloved wife my house clock, and my ten-bladed stoff. It is my will and I do hereby ordain that my executors hereafter named shall the first year find unto my beloved wife fifteen bushels of rye, and three bushels of wheat after my decease. It is further my will that I give and bequeath unto my son John one black horse colt going in four years. I give and bequeath unto my son Peter one bay colt going in two years, and I further bequeath unto my daughter Polly one bed and bed skirt, and one bureau, and the second choice of a cow out of my stock, and the choice of a heffer out of my stock. It is further my will to bequeath unto my daughter Margaret one cow, the worth of a cow at the vendon. It is further my will, and I bequeath unto my three sons John, Peter and Benjamin the sum of four hundred Pounds - good and lawful money - of Pennsylvania to be put on interest. My son Benjamin, arrived the age of fifteen years, and my beloved wife shall trade the interest of the four hundred pounds aforementioned. In the manner my son Benjamin is fifteen years old. I further bequeath unto my beloved wife two tops, the choice of four washing tops, and walnut bonds for a corning table. It is further my will that my executors, herein after mentioned, shall dispose of and sell all my real and personal property accepting what is here to accept all the real estate shall all be sold accepting one acre at the corner of John, Ruth, Michael and Adam. And it is further my will that my executors shall build and erect a log house twenty-eight feet long, and twenty-two feed width, with a cellar under it, and a stable for it to keep two cows, keep hay on it, and said executors must dig a well close to the house. They will clear the said acre of land and put in a complete post fence, and a (????). Make everything in good order that is fit to live on said acre of land, and further I ordain that my beloved wife shall find boarding to erect said buildings on the said land. It is further my wish that if my executors can buy a suitable house and land in the neighborhood, then the executors shall buy one and sell here the land with the other land. It is my wish that thall shall bid on said land for my beloved wife Magdalena to live in as long as she is alive. In further, my wife shall trade the interest of that part, real, and personal estate during her natural life. It is further my will that my children shall trade, share, and share alike, accepting what was here to fore. Accept this, my will, and do hereby order that my executors hereafter named shall dispose and sell all my real and person estate on Poplick Vanden' and lastly, I ordain, nominate, and appoint my beloved son John, and my son-in-law Conrad Spatz, executors of this, my last will and testament, and to see the same justly and honestly fulfilled according to the true intent and meaning thereof, and I hereby make null and void all other wills and testaments by me here to fore make in words, or writing, ratifying and allowing, this and no other, to be my last will and testament in witness where I have hereunto set my name, I seal this 18th day of August, 1808.
