Last Will and Testament of George Moll

Hereford Twp 1877

In the name of God, Amen. I George Moll of Hereford Township on the County of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, farmer, being weak in body but of sound mind, memory and understanding and considering the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make and publish this my last will and testament in the following manner to wit:

First; It is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall be paid as soon as conveniently can be after my decease.

Second; I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Maria for her use during her lifetime the interest of two thousand dollars at five percent per annum the principal to remain a charge on the farm on which I know live and the owner as occupier thereof is to pay her the interest aforesaid annually on the first day of April which payments shall commence one year after y decease. I also give and bequeath unto my said wife for her use during her natural lifetime the western room on the first floor of the house I now occupy also her choice of a room in the second story of said house, also some room in the cellar and garret, also one fourth of the garden where she my chose it, and the right to use the bakeoven and water about the said house. The owner or occupier of my said farm shall also at all times furnish my said wife with sufficient good wheat flour, meat, fruit, potatoes, milk, butter, lard, eggs and other eatables produced on said farm, all firewood cut small & delivered to the house free of charge. I also give and bequeath unto my said wife for her use during her lifetime or widowhood one corner cupboard with the contents, thereof, a cookstove and pipe, another stove and pipe, half a dozen chairs, settee and buffalo robe, 2 beds & bedding therefore, carpets for two rooms, all which articles she shall have the privilege to select herself and in addition thereto some of my linens & such other articles or household goods as she may wish to have.

Third; I give and bequeath to my son George Moll in fee the farm or plantation on which I now live situate in the townships of Hereford and Longswamp, Berks County, bounded by the land of Charles H Gery, Samuel Bittenbinder, Christopher Bittenbinder, David G Srisholtz & others containing one hundred and sixty acres more or less, and also a certain tract of chestnut woodland situate in Longswamp Township, Berks County bounded by the lands of George Wentzel, Jacob Moll and others containing five acres more or less, which said plantation and two tracts of land I value at seven thousand dollars, three hundred dollars and eight hundred dollars thereof shall be paid by the said George Moll one year after my decease, twelve hundred dollars more thereof shall be paid thereof to my granddaughters Clara Beughman at her arrival at the age of twenty one years without interest, which sum I hereby give and bequeath to her as her full portion of my estate; and the remaining two thousand dollars shall be paid at and immediately upon the decease or marriage of my said wife and the interest thereof annually unto her lifetime or widowhood; during all which time the said premises shall also remain subject to the delivery of the hereinbefore mentioned articles, reserved for the support of my said wife.

Fourth; I give and bequeath unto my son Reuben Moll on fee all that certain messuage, tavernstand and two tracts of land, both situate in Hereford Township aforesaid, the one on which the buildings are erected bounded by lands of John Will, Henry Fox, John Moyer, John J Moll's estate, George Kemp, George Rohrback and others consisting of cultivated land and partially meadow on the northwest side of the creek. The other tract being woodland is bounded by lands of John J Moll decd., Reuben Beidler, George Moyer & others containing twenty one acres. These two tracts consist of the residue of the Huff tract not sold to John J Moll. Which premises I also value at the rate of five thousand and five hundred dollars, which sum shall be paid into my estate one year after my decease by my said son Reuben Moll.

Fifth; I give and bequeath unto my son Samuel Moll in fee all that certain messuage and tract of land situate in Hereford Township bounded by lands of John B Gehrman, Hullman, Reuben Kinert, Kreider and others containing ninety eight adres, which I value at the rate of five thousand dollars to be paid into my estate one year after my decease.

Sixth; I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Ann intermarried with William Gregory the sum of one thousand dollars in cash one year after y decease and the interest of the rate of five percent of the remaining portion of her full share during her natural lifetime, and after her decease the said remaining portion of her full share shall be equally divided to my children or their heirs.

Seventh; My Executors hereinafter named, if they see fit, may sell my movable goods exclusively among the heirs to the highest bidder.

Eighth; I give and bequeath the several sums of money out of my real estate not hereinbefore otherwise disposed of together with my personal property not herein before otherwise disposed of, and the proceeds of the sale of my real estate herein after mentioned, in seven equal shares unto my seven children, the children of John J Moll deceased, Samuel, George, Reuben, Elizabeth, Sarah Ann, and Lovina.

Lastly; I nominate & appoint Charles H Gery, and Samuel Moll and George Moll, to be the Executors of this my Last Will and Testament giving them one hundred dollars each for settling my estate and hereby authorizing and empowering them to sell at public sale three several tracts of land the one adjoin the messuage I now live on and the other two being woodland situate in Longswamp Township aforesaid.

Registers Office Berks County SS, on the 28th day of May AD 1877 before me P Y Edelman Register of Wills personally appeared William B Moll and William Andre the subscribing Witnesses to the foregoing will being duly sworn according to Law did dispose and say that they were present and did see and hear George Moll the Testator sign seal publish and declare that the foregoing instrument of writing as and for his last will and testament and at the time of the doing he was of sound mind memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge observation and belief.
