Last Will and Testament of George DeTurk

In the name of God Amen, I George DeTurk of Oley Township, Berks County, Yeoman, being of a sound and disposing mind memory and understanding but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following to wit.

First. It is my will and I so order that all my just debts and funeral expenses to be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my decease.

Item. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Catharine such of my household and kitchen furniture as she may choose to select for her use, as well also the horse, cows, hogs, a wagon and such other stock as she desires to retain in her custody out of the house furniture. I give however to each of my two sons, a bed and bedspread. What my said wife Catherine does not select to keep, shall be sold by my Executors hereinafter named as part of my estate.

Item. I also give and bequeath unto my Wife the sum of one hundred dollars to be paid to her out of my estate by my said Executors as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and the interest of the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars to be paid her annually during her natural live.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my son George his heirs and assigns the sum of five hundred dollars, and to my son Samuel a like sum of five hundred dollars out of my estate to be paid to their heirs or assigns.

And touching on the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, of whatever kind or nature wherever the same may be. I give and devise unto my three children to wit George, Samuel and daughter Catherine intermarried with Jacob Hoch, in three equal shares to be divided among them, share and share alike.

And touching on the seven hundred and fifty dollars of which my wife Catherine is to have annual interest thereof paid to her, my will and meaning is, that the said sum instead of being placed out of interest elsewhere, may be divided into three equal parts among my said two sons and my son in law Jacob Hoch, they making themselves responsible to pay the interest of the respective part annually to my said wife Catherine during her natural life and after her decease the said sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars principal shall revert to my said children their heirs or assigns.

And lastly I nominate, constitute and appoint my two sons, George and Samuel DeTurk to be the Executors of this my Will, hereby revoking all other wills, legacies, and bequests by me heretofore made and declaring this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal the Second Day of June A.D. One Thousand and Eight Hundred and Forty Two.

George DeTurk (seal)

Signed, sealed and declared by the said testator as his last will and testament in the presence of us.
