Last Will and Testament of Andrew Dutter

I, Andrew Dutter, of the county of Crawford and state of Missouri, do hereby make and publish my last will and testament as follows, to wit:

1st I desire that my funeral expenses and all my other debts be first paid.

2nd I will give and bequeath unto my wife, ANTOINETTE DUTTER, the following described property, first, to retain and hold as her dower, this homestead, the house in which we now live, to have and to hold the same during her life. Also to have two beds and bedding, one bureau, one chest, one table, eight chairs, two stands and furniture, one clock, one cupboard and all the dishes that belong to the house. Two barrels, 2 benches, our woodbox and 2 buckets, one hoe and spade, one carpet, one meat barrel, one soap stand, one molasses barrel, one large iron kettle and 2 brass kettles. One cow and calf, 2 sheep, also the use of 1/2 of all the fowls on the place, also to have her geese.

3rd My son JOHN DUTTER has received in land and other property his full share of my estate.

4th I give and bequeath unto my son, JEREMIAH DUTTER, and to his heirs and assigns forever the following described tracts of land in the county of Crawford and state of Missouri, to wit: 15 acres and 22/100 of an acre in Sec. 18, Twp. 40, R. 3W in the west end of the SW 1/4 of Sec 18, the same being in the west end ofsaid land lying on the township line. 4.06 acres in Sec 19. Also the SE 1/2 of the E1/2 of Sec 24 in T. 40, R. 4W, containing 40 acres lying in the county of Crawford, state of MO. the said Jeremiah Dutter is to have the use of the above land to cultivate during the natural life of my wife, upon these express conditions, he binds himself to furnish his mother with 2 well fatted hogs each year. Also to furnish his mother with plenty of fire wood, chopped and delivered in her house To keep her in flour and all other things for her comfort. Also after my death the said Jeremiah binds himself to give his mother the 1/3 part of all grain raised on the farm and to put her rent grain in the barn and also all the hay and oats, the wheat to be cleaned and put in the garner for her. At the death of my wife all the above named property belongs to said Jeremiah, and he is at all times to furnish a safe conveyance to meetings and other places. It is also my request that what property of a personal nature that I may ownat my death not otherwise disposed of in this will be sold and after paying all expenses, the balance to be paid over to my wife by the executor hereinafter named.

5th I will give an bequeath unto my daughter HARRIET WORK, the following property, to wit: The E. end of S1/2 of SW1/4 of Sec. 18 in Twp. 40 R. 3W, containing 50 acres in the county of Crawford, State of MO. Also 1 bureau to be received at the death of my wife. Lastly I do here apopint my son, JOHN DUTTER of Franklin County, executor of this my last will and testament, in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of March, 1863.

Note: Andrew died in March 1875. Will on file in Crawford County, MO. After the death of Andrew Dutter, his son, John dropped the "umlauted" u and substituted for it with an "o", making the name DOTTER. (umlauted evidently means the 2 dots over the letter u in the original spelling)
