The Will of Anthony Bickel

This is also a copy from the original German written Will dated January 3, 1822, probated in 1826

In the name of God Amen, I Anthony Bickel of Heidelberg Township, Berks County and State of Pennsylvania, farmer, my body is sick and weak but thank God still good in mind and understanding make herewith my last Will and Testament.

Next, I recommend my soul to God who gave it to me and my body should be buried after a Christian Service.

What I have at this time I give in the following manner: First, it is by my Will and Testament and I give to my beloved wife Magdalena so much from my house and kitchen utilities as she wants, a cow which she chooses and everything she needs, and yearly twelve pounds as long as she lives.

Second, in my Will and Testament that two hundred pounds of the land which I sold to my son, Joseph must remain as long as my wife lives, from which he must give her the interest so long as she lives.

Third, it is my Will and Testament that my Executors shall give my son Jonathan until the first of April, One Thousand Eight hundred Twenty Four, two hundred pounds, paid.

Fourth, it is my Will and Testament that my Executors shall give to my son Daniel the first of April, One Thousand Eight hundred Twenty five, two hundred pounds. My daughter Elizabeth married to Martin Lengel, my daughter Magdalena married to Heinrich Trautman, and my son Anthony each have received Two hundred pounds.

Fifth, it is my Will and Testament that everything that is left by my son, Joseph owing to me should stay in my Executors hand till after the death of my wife, then shall be divided in equal parts between my following children, namely between my daughters Elizabeth, Magdalena, my sons Anthony, Jonathan and Daniel. My son Joseph received his full inheritance in land before.

Sixth, it is my Will and Testament that my son Jonathan my mares shall have, and my sons Anthony and Daniel shall have from the movable goods in my executor's hands which shall be sold after my death so each have what mares are worth, what is left stay with in my Executor's hands until my wife's death. Then everything shall be divided in equal parts between before mentioned inheritants.

I nominate herewith my son, Joseph Bickel and my son Anthony Bickel for Executors of this my last Will and Testament, and this my last Will shall be legal and I have no other. Witness to my own handwriting and Seal.

This is undersigned and sealed made known by above nominee Anthony Bickel in our presence.

On Oct. 16, 1826 Jacob Filbert and Joseph Goode declared in court that they were present at the time of the writing of the will. In Orphans Court at Reading in Berks County on Nov. 9, 1827 appointed Jonathan Miller, Philip FILBERT and John Potteiger guardianship over the estate of the minor children of deceased Anthony Bickel.
