Last Will and Testament of Adam Heckman

Know all men by these presents, that I Adam Heckman, of the Township of Perry, Count of Berks and state of Pennsylvania, Yeoman, being of sound mind memory and understanding do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at anytime heretofore made.

Imprimis. I direct that my body be decently interred according to the rites and ceremonies of the church and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate and situation in life. And that all my just debts and funeral expenses being fully paid and satisfied by my executors hereto after named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.

Item 1st. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Lydia Heckman all such articles of my household goods and furniture and such consumable supplies as may be on hand at the time of my death, as she may choose to retain for her own use; and also the sum of one thousand dollars to be paid to her as soon as may be after my death for the supply of her immediate wants.

Item 2nd. I give and bequeath to my daughter Louisa Heckman the sewing machine, one bed and bedding, which ever she prefer to have and one hundred dollars in cash money.

Item 3rd. All the rest residue and remainder of my estate real personal and mixed whatsoever and wheresoever I order and direct to be converted into money as soon as the same can conveniently be done after my decease and for that I propose, I do hereby authorize and empower my said executors hereinafter named and the survivors of them to sell and dispose of all my said real estate by public sale or sales for the best prices that can be gotten for the same and by proper deed or deeds conveyance of assurance in the law to be duly executed acknowledged and perfected to grand and convey and assure the same to the Purchaser or Purchasers thereof.

Item 4th. I order and direct that anyone or any of them that shall not be satisfied with this my last will and testament and will create strife or resort to law the one or any of them so creating strife or going to the law shall forfeit his or her or their share or shares of the legacy heretofore directed to be given to them and the forfeited part or parts be divided among the other of my heirs share and share alike.

Item 5th. I order and allow each of my executors the sum of fifteen dollars as commission to settle up my estate otherwise all shares shall be alike after deducting necessary expenses.

Lastly. I do hereby constitute and appoint my three sons viz Ephraim Heckman, William Heckman and Manasses Heckman to be the executors of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I Adam Heckman the testator have to this my will written on one sheet of paper set my hand and seal this Twenty Ninth day of June One thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty Nine.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said Adam Heckman as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.

On the 19th day of April A.D. 1895 before me personally appeared B. M. Gruber and Charles N Brownmiller the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will of Adam Heckman deceased, and on their solemn oaths, did state they were present and did see and hear Adam Heckman, deceased, the testator therein named, sign, seal, publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament, and at so doing thereof he was of sound disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief.
