12th & WALNUT Sts. -- Rev. Monsignor George Bornemann's crusade to see Reading through a typhoid epidemic of 1872 resulted in the founding of St. Joseph's Hospital, opened in a brick farmhouse, the hospital expanded to this structure in 1885. This view is from 12 & Walnut Sts., circa 1905.
