UNION BANK

ALSO KNOWN AS THE FARR SHOE FACTORY

Mr. Yoder, the Berks County Historical Society’s Executive Director, came upon this rare 19th century view of the 1761 structure long known as the Union Bank, which is what it was when this photo was taken. Many of you will know it as the Farr Shoe Store building--off the southwest corner of 5th and Penn. Though greatly modified, largely in the 1940’s, it is the oldest structure on Penn Street. (The photo was found in an obscure file of oversized prints in storage on the 2nd floor of Society headquarters.)

NOTE: The photograph is "used with permission of the Historical Society of Berks County." We extend them many thanks for sharing this photo with us.
