2. EVA ROSINA BECHTEL (CHRISTOPHER1) was born 09 May 1724, and died 09 Nov 1794 in Berks Co. Pa. Age 70.6mos.. She married MICHAEL LUDWIG, son of ? LUDWIG. He was born 24 Aug 1712 in Palatinate, Germany, and died 27 Dec 1789 in Berks Co. Pa. Age 77.4.3. Burial: Amityville Cemetery


Notes for MICHAEL LUDWIG:


In the Amityville Cemetery there is a large stone marker with a brass plague near the church. the plague reads: "In memory of Michael Ludwig, who with his brother, Daniel, emigrated from Palatinate Germany landing at Philadelphia September 18,1733."


They are the first known Ludwigs to land in America. He settled in Amity Twp. Berks Co. Pa.The Ludwig family of Berks county was founded in America by Daniel and Michael Ludwig, brothers, who landed at Philadelphia Sept. 18, 1733, having come from Rotterdam on the ship "Pennsylvania Merchant," Capt. John Stedman. Their father's name was Michael, and besides him they left in Germany one sister and four brothers, Emmanuel, Philip, Jacob and Abraham. Both the brothers settled in Berks county, Daniel about a mile southwest of Sinking Spring and Michael in Amity township. Michael Ludwig was a farmer and mason. He was a Piest and resided in amity Township and Eseter Township in 1740

    Notes for JACOB LEVAN:


    Jacob lived and died in Exeter Twp. Berks Co. Pa. He inherited the homestead (known as the Cyrus LeVan estate) and the tannery of his father. At his death he was considered to be one of the most substantial citizens and largest landowner in this part of Berks County.
