FUNERALS

 

Mrs. Mazy Emma KANTZ, nee FEICK, daughter of Frank FEICK and his wife, Elmira, nee HAAS, was born April 16, 1903, in Upper Bern Township, and was baptized May 24, 1903, by Rev. Leinbach.  She was confirmed Sept. 29, 1917, in Zion Church, by Pastor Klick.  On March 11, 1920, she was married to Marcus KANTZ by Rev. Mengel.  She died in St. John’s Hospital, Reading, March 22, 1923, aged 19 years, 11 months, 16 days.  She is survived by her husband, a son, a daughter, her parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.  Funeral March 26, in Zion church. Rom. 8:18.

Mrs. Sulla Effie DEGLER, nee KLINE, daughter of Reily R. KLINE and his wife Lizzie S., nee LESHER, was born at Rehrersburg Sept. Sept. 24, 1892, and was baptized Nov. 13, 1892, by Pastor Trexler.  She was confirmed in Trinity church by Rev. Trexler in 1909.  She was married June 5, 1915, to Herbert B. DEGLER by Rev. Klick.  She died in Striker’s Hospital, Reading, April 2, 1923, aged 30 years, 6 months, 8 days.  she is survived by her husband, 2 sons, a daughter, her mother, a sister and 3 brothers.  Funeral April 7, in Trinity church.  Is. 40:11.

Ephraim WAGNER, son of Daniel and his wife Elizabeth, nee REIFSNYDER, was born Nov. 24, 1836, in Upper Bern and was baptized Feb. 26, 1837, by Rev. Schmidt.  He was confirmed at St. Michael’s church in youth, was married to Louisa MILLER March 15, 1856, by Rev. Zehring.  He died May 9, 1923, aged 86 years, 5 months, 15 days.  He is survived by 6 daughters, 51 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren--142 descendants.  The funeral was held Fmay 14, in Friedens church. Rom. 14:7-8.

Mrs. Annie E. HIESTER, nee GREIM, daughter of John GREIM and his wife Marie, nee DeTURK, was born Oct. 25, 1865, in Upper Tulpehocken, and was baptized April 29, 1866, by Rev. Schwartz.  She was confirmed April 16, 1881, by Rev. Finfrock.  Sept. 12, 1885, she was married to Henry D. HIESTER by T.C. Leinbach.  She died May 23, 1923, aged 57 years, 6 months, 28 days.  She is survived by her husband, one son, 4 daughters, one brother, and 4 grandchildren.  The funeral was held May 28, 9n Zion church.  II Tim. 4:7-8.

John Howard BATZ, son of John BATZ and his wife Marietta, nee ULRICH, was born Sept. 8, 1884 in Bethel township, and was baptized Nov. 21, 1884, by Rev. Trexler.  On Oct. 19, 1901, he was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran church, Rehrersburg.  He died June 4, 1923, at Avon, Pa., aged 38 years, 8 months, 27 days.  He is survived by his father, a sister, and 4 brothers.  The funeral was held in Salem church, June 7. Eccl. 7: 2; Mal. 3:17.

Mrs. Lizzie STOYER, nee ROLLMAN, daughter of Peter ROLLMAN and his sife Isabella, nee DEGLER, was born Feb. 24, 1886, in Upper Tulpehocken, and was baptized May 18, 1886, by Rev. Eli HEISTER.  She was confirmed by Rev. Kramlich in Zion church Oct. 8, 1900.  She was married to John H. STOYER Mr. 12, 1910, by Rev. D.G. Cerberich.  She died June 20, 1923, aged 37 years, 3 months, 26 days.  She is survived by her husband, a son, 3 daughters, parents, and one sister.  The funeral was private at the house on June 22. Interment in Zion church cemetery. Rom. 8:28.

Mrs. Mabel LESHER, nee FEICK, daughter of Samuel J. FEICK and his wife Sallie, nee BERGER, was born Oct. 18, 1898, and was baptized December 11, 1898, by Rev. Trexler.  She was confirmed in Frieden’s church Oct. 10, 1914, by Rev. Klick.  She was married to A.W. LESHER, Sept. 29, 1917, by Rev. Laudenslager.  She died Feb. 13, 1923, aged 24 years, 3 months, 25 days.  She is survived by her husband, a daughter, her parents, and one brother.  The funeral was held Feb. 15, and was strictly private.  Interment in Zion church cemetery. Matt. 5:4

Mrs. Mary Ann WEBBER, nee STRAUSS, daughter of Samuel STRAUSS and his wife Susanna, nee MILLER, was born in Bethel township, July 29, 1844, and was baptized Aug. 17, 1844, by Rev. Mennig.  She was confirmed by Rev. Grahn May 10, 1860, in Zion church.  She was married to Samuel M. WEBBER in 1862, by Rev. Joel Grim.  She died July 25, 1923, aged 78 years, 11 months, 26 days.  She is survived by her husband, 3 sons, 5 daughters, 3 sisters, 4 brothers and 15 grandchildren.  The funeral was held Aug. 1, in Trinity church. I Cor. 15:26.

LeRoy BERTRAM, son of James E. BERTRAM and his wife Sadie, nee HOWER, was born May 9, 1918, in Upper Tulpehocken, and was baptized Aug. 25, 1918, by Rev. Klick.  He died Aug. 6, 1923, aged 5 years, 2 months, 27 days.  He is survived by his parents, grandparents, 3 brothers.  The funeral was held Aug. 10, in Zion church.  Ps. 103:15-18.

Mrs. Nora KLINE, nee KOCH, daughter of Samuel KOCH and his wife Catharine, nee LONG, was born Sept. 28, 1884, in Lower Heidelberg, and was baptized June 11, 1893, by Rev. W.J. Kershner.  She was confirmed in Hain’s church by Rev. Kershner June 2, 1900.  On March 39, 1919, she was married to Isaac F. KLINE by Rev. W.K. Fisher.  She died Aug. 23, 1923, aged 38 years, 10 months, 24 days.  She is survived by her husband, father and 5 brothers.  The funeral took place on Aug. 27, in St. Paul’s church. Ps. 37:5.

John Henry STAHL, son of Adam STAHL and his wife Catharine, nee HENNE, was born Nov. 26, 1858, in Upper Tulpehocken, and was baptized March 27, 1859, by Rev. Zehring.  He was confirmed in Zion church April 26, 1873, by Rev. Finfrock.  On Aug. 10, 1878, he was married to Emma I. SCHADE by Rev. Finfrock.  He died Aug. 24, 1923, aged 64 years, 8 months, 28 days.  There survive his widow, a son, and 3 grandchildren.  The funeral was held Aug. 28, in Zion church.  Ps. 16:6.

Andrew B. WAGNER, son of Benjamin WAGNER and his wife Lydia, nee BOYER, was born in Upper Bern Aug. 5, 1840, and was baptized Dec. 20, 1840, by Rev. Herbel.  He was confirmed in St. Michael’s church by Rev. Jaeger.  He was married July 22, 1865, to Angelina LUCKENBILL, by Rev. T.H. Leinbach.  After the death of his wife he was married to Mrs. Sarah RIEHL, July 15, 1876, by Rev. Trexler.  He died Sept. 2, 1923, aged 83 years, 28 days.  The survivors are 3 sons, 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.  The funeral was held Sept. 6 in Trinity church.  I Tim. 6:12.  He was a Civil War veteran, and was engaged in the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg.  At the latter place he was wounded and captured.  The rest of his enlisted time was spent in hospitals, when he was honorably discharged July 30, 1863.

Daniel Ambrose ROEDER, son of Elias ROEDER and his wife Sarah, nee REBER, was born Mar. 11, 1874, in Wayne township, Schuylkill county, and was baptized April 16, 1874, by Rev. Schmidt.  He was confirmed at Summit Hill church by Rev. E.S. Smoll.  He was married to Clara Alma STOYER Nov. 12, 1904, by Rev. Trexler.  He died Sept. 2, 1923, aged 49 years, 5 months, 21 days.  Survivors are his widow, a son, 2 daughters, a brother and 4 sisters, and his mother.  The funeral was held Sept. 6, in Friedens church.  Mt. 24:14.

Cain NEY, son of John C. NEY and his wife Catharine, nee WENRICH, was born April 23, 1856.  He was baptized in infancy, and was confirmed in Zion church.  He died Sept. 12, at Lisbon, Iowa, where he had lived for 40 years; aged 67 years, 4 months, 19 days.  He is survived by 3 brothers and one sister.  The funeral was held Sept. 20 in Zion church.  Nah. 1:7.

Charles SCHULER was born Jan. 26, 1846, in Eisfeld, Germany.  He was baptized in infancy and was confirmed as a member of the Lutheran church.  He died Oct. 11, 1923, aged 77 years, 8 months, 15 days.  The funeral was held Oct. 13, in Zion church.  Ps. 57:2.

Mrs. Sarah GRAEFF, nee LONG, daughter of Joseph LONG and his wife Hannah, nee STRAUSS, was born May 20, 1844 in Upper Tulpehocken, and was baptized May 24, 1844, by Rev. Wm. Miller.  She was confirmed April 10, 1858, in Zion church by Rev. Dietzler.  She was married to James GRAEFF, Dec. 23, 1864, by Rev. Joel Grim.  She died Oct. 13, 1923, aged 79 years, 4 months, 23 days.  The survivors are a son, a daughter, 2 sisters, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.  The funeral took place Oct. 18, in Zion church.  Jas. 5:11.

Charles EPLER, a son of Charles Howard EPLER and Emma LENGEL [maiden name?], was born Feb. 3, 1877, in Tulpehocken township, and was baptized July 16, 1877, by Rev. Trexler.  He was confirmed in Zion church by Rev. Finfrock April 18, 1891.  He was married to Katie M. LUCKENBILL, June 1, 1895, by Rev. Kramlich.  He died Oct. 16, 1923, aged 46 years, 8 months, 16 days.  There are surviving his widow, a son, a daughter, one grandchild and his mother.  The funeral was held Oct. 25, in Zion church.  Heb. 5:9.

Mrs. Mamie Caroline ZELLER, nee STRAUSS, daughter of Elias K. STRAUSS, and his wife Nora, nee FIELD, was born Sept. 27, 1898, in Bethel township, and was baptized Dec. 4, 1898, by Rev. Trexler.  She was confirmed Nov. 1, 1913, in Salem church by Rev. Trexler.  She was married to Howard A. ZELLER June 10, 1916, by Rev. Klick.  She died Nov. 11, 1923, aged 25 years, 1 month, 14 days.  She is survived by her husband, 3 daughters, her parents, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.  The funeral was held Nov. 15, in Salem church.  Jn. 16:22.

Valentine Eli RENTSCHLER, a son of William RENTSCHLER and his wife Elizabeth, nee KAUFMAN, was born Nov. 5, 1844, in Upper Bern, and was baptized Mar. 16, 1845, by Rev. Schmidt.  He was confirmed in St. Michael’s church by Rev. T.T. Jaeger.  He died Nov. 16, 1923, aged 79 years, 9 days.  Although never married, he and his sister became the foster parents of his brother’s children, who were full orphans.  He is survived by his siter, and these foster children:  one son, 3 daughters and 12 grandchildren.  The funeral was held Nov. 29, in Friedens church.  Ps. 73: 23-24.

Emma I. PEIFFER, daughter of Jacob PEIFFER and his wife Margaret, nee BATDORF, was born Feb. 27, 1845, in Tulpehocken township, and was baptized April 25, 1845.  She was confirmed in Trinity church by Rev. Dr. Grahn.  She taught public school for 18 years.  She died Nov. 21, 1923, aged 78 years, 8 months, 24 days.  She is survived by two nieces and a nephew.  The funeral was held Nov. 27, in Trinity church.  Heb. 13:14.

Daniel Washington WAGNER, son of Daniel WAGNER and his wife Elizabeth, nee REIFSNYDER, was born Feb. 22, 1841, in Upper Bern, and was baptized June 22, 1841, by Rev. Harbel.  He was confirmed in St. Michael’s church by Rev. T. T. Jaeger.  He was married to Catharine Ann KAUFFMAN Oct. 13, 1860, by Rev. Smith.  He died Dec. 31, 1923, aged 82 years, 10 months, 9 days. He is survived by a son, 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren.  The funeral was held Jan. 5, 1924, in Friedens church.  Is. 46:4.

Joseph N. MOYER, son of Jacob MOYER and his wife Elizabeth, nee NEY, was born March 12, 1847, in Upper Bern township, and was baptized March 16, 1847, by Rev. Schmidt.  He was confirmed in St. Michael’s church by Rev. Jaeger.  On Oct. 13, 1866, he was married to Leanda BRENSINGER by Rev. Lampe.  He died Jan. 8, 1924, aged 76 years, 9 months, 26 days.  He is survived by 4 sons, 4 daughters, 22 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.  The funeral was held Jan 12th, in Zion church.  Col. 3:2.

Levi Nicholas CHRISTMAN, son of Levi CHRISTMAN and his wife, Catharine, nee WAGNER, was born April 1, 1865, in Upper Tulpehocken townhship, and was baptized Aug. 13, 1865, by Rev. Joel Grim.  He was confirmed April 21, 1883, in Zion church, by Rev. T.C. Leinbach.  He died Fjan. 11, 1924, aged 58 years, 9 months and 10 days.  His widow, one daughter and a brother survive.  The funeral took place on Jan. 15, in Zion church.  Rom. 14:7.

Emma Rebecca OCHSENREITER, daughter of Moses OCHSENREITER and his wife Catharine, nee DUNKELBERGER, was born Dec. 28, 1857, in Jackson township, Lebanon Co., and was baptized May 16, 1858, by Rev. T.T. Jaeger.  She was confirmed March 25, 1876, by Rev. Trexler in Salem church.  She died Jan. 16, 1924, at Cleona, aged 66 years, 17 days.  She is survived by three sisters.  The funeral took place Jan 18 in Trinity church.  1 Cor. 9:26-27.

Mrs. Elenora C. HUMMEL, nee OCHSENREITER, daughter of Moses OCHSENREITER and his wife Catherine, nee DUNKELBERGER, was born June 13, 1856, in Heidelberg township, and was baptized by T.T. Jaeger.  She was confirmed in Trinity church March 29, 1872, by Rev. Trexler.  She was married to Franklin HUMMEL Dec. 2, 1876, by Rev. Trexler.  She died Feb. 21, 1924, in Philadelphia, aged 67 years, 8 months, 8 days.  She is survived by 2 sons, 3 grandchildren, 2 sisters.  the funeral was held Feb. 25, in Trinity church.  Phil. 1:21.

John Adam GRETH, son of Adam B. GRETH and his wife Mary M., nee BALTHASER, was born May 7, 1905, in Heidelberg township, and was baptized Aug. 18, 1906, by Rev. A.J. Long.  He was confirmed in Christ church Oct. 16, 1920, by Rev. Klick.  He died Feb. 28, 1924, aged 18 years, 9 months, 21 days.  His survivors are the parents a sister, and 2 half-sisters.  The funeral was private, interment at Christ church.  Col. 3:2.

Mrs. Catharine PEIFFER, nee NAPP, daughter of Noah NAPP and his wife, Catherine, nee STEINBACH, was born Sept. 7, 1860, in Bethel township, and was baptized Aug. 31, 1862, by Rev. Grahn.  She was confirmed April 13, 1878, in Salem church by Rev. Trexler.  She was married to Adam T. PEIFFER by Rev. C.H. Leinbach.  She died Feb. 29, 1924, aged 63 years, 5 months, 22 days.  She is survived by 4 sons, 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 3 sisters.  The funeral was held March 5 in Salem church.  Jn. 17:11.
