Baptisms

Leroy Austin Brunner, son of George B. and Kate Brunner, of Weavertown, was born October 16th, 1889; baptized February 1st, 1890. The parents are the sponsors

Peter D. Levan, son of Ezra and Susan Levan, of Oley, was born November 22d, 1873; baptized Feb. 9th 1890.

Mary P. Levan, daughter of Ezra and Susan Levan, of Oley was born November 30th, 1879; baptized February 9th, 1890. The mother stood for her daughter.

Hannah P. Levan, daughter of Ezra and Susan Levan, of Oley, was born April 7th, 1881; baptized February 9th, 1890. The mother is the sponsor.

Peter Griesemer and Kate Griesemer, twin children of Peter and Catharine A. Griesemer, of Spangsville, were born January 25th, 1890; baptized February 9th, 1890. The parents stood for the children.

Reuben Benjamin Kuhns, son of Alfred and Mary Kuhns, of Crackersport, Lehigh County, was born January 18th, 1890; baptized February 19th, 1890. The parents stood for their child

Clara Belle Link, daughter of Jacob F. and Joanna Link, of Ruscombmanor, was born June 28th, 1889; baptized February 23d, 1890. The parents stood for the child.

Augustus Ludwig Marquette, son of Howard L. and Laura M. Marquette, of Amityville, was born October 13th, 1889; baptized February 28th 1890. The parents stood for their child.

Bessie Koch, daughter of Edwin and Nora Koch, of Yellow House, was born October 1st, 1889; baptized March 9th, 1890. The parents stood for their child.

Wilson A. Hartline, son of David and Magdalena Hartline, of Oley, was born October 10th, 1872; baptized March 16th, 1890.

Sallie A. Hartline, daughter of David and Magdalena Hartline, of Oley, was born April 22d, 1874; baptized March 16th, 1890.

Sallie La-annah Rhoads, daughter of Daniel R. and Mary L. Rhoads of the Yellow House, was born January 17th, 1890; baptized March 16th, 1890. The parents stood for their child.

Mary Conrad, daughter of Ephraim and Emma Conrad, of Oley, was born January 22d, 1890; baptized March 23d, 1890. The parents stood for the child.

Marriages

On the 15th of February, 1890, Mr. George D. Lineman, of the Yellow House to Miss Hannah S. Rhoads, of Oley.

On the 1st of March, 1890, Mr. Charles H. Haas, of Ruscombmanor, to Miss Ida D. Fisher, of Amity.

On the 22d of March, 1890, at the bride's home near Unionville, Mr. John H. Hoffman, of Douglassville, to Miss Mary L. Jacobs, of Union.

Burials

Catharine Stapelton, of Oley, was the wife of John Stapleton and daughter of Daniel and Catharine Biehl. She was born October 21st, 1822. Baptized January 19th, 1822, by Rev. John Knoske, John and Elizabeth Palsgrove acting as sponsors. She was confirmed at Amityville, May 4th, 1839, by Rev. Conrad Miller, a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. On the 13th of November, 1842, she entered the holy state of matrimony with John Stapelton, with whom she lived over 47 years. The union was blessed with 5 sons and 1 daughter, of whom 3 sons and the daughter survive.

On the 5th of May, 1889, she had a paralytic stroke, from which she never fully recovered. Two weeks before she died she was again stricken, and was touched again with the same a few days before she died. It pleased God to call her home to her rest on Friday, January 31st, 1890, 9 o'clock in the morning, aged 67 years, 3 months, 11 days. She was buried on the 4th of February in the Oley Cemetery. Text: Rom. 5:1,2. 1 sister and 3 brothers of deceased are still living.

Henrietta R. Bertolette, of Oley, was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Guldin; she was born December 3d, 1813; baptized in infancy and later in her life confirmed a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Amityville by Rev. Conrad Miller. On the 5th of December, 1830, she was joined in holy wedlock with Mr. Levi J. Bertolette, who departed this life on April 10, 1883. The fruits of this union were 8 children, of whom 2 sons and 1 daughter still survive. She was complaining for about one month with the influenza and the infirmities of old age. She peacefully fell asleep on Sunday, February 2d, 1890, at 1:45 p.m., at the home of her sister, Mrs. Frederick Lauer, in Reading, to whose infirmities she was ministering for some time. She was buried from her daughter's, Mrs. Heckman's, home, on February 6th; services and interment at Oley. Text (selected): II Tim. 4:7, 8. Aged 76 years, 1 month, 29 days.

Kate M. Swavely was the daughter of Frederick and Mary Ann Swavely, of Weavertown. She was born September 27th, 1863; baptized in infancy by Rev. George Miller, her grandmother, Mrs. Mock, acting as sponsor. She was confirmed by Rev. C. Koerner, April 5th, 1879, at Amityville. She was sick for over a year, suffering from consumption, and bore her burden very patiently till God closed her eyes in peace, Sunday evening at 7:20 o'clock (February 2d, 1890), aged 26 years, 4 months and 5 days. She was buried February 7th, in the Amityville Cemetery. Text, Matt 25:23.

Elijah Focht, of Earl, was the son of George and Elizabeth (nee Smith) Focht. Born May 2d, 1806; baptized April 15th, 1807, Jacob and Elizabeth Griesemer being the sponsors. Confirmed in 1831 by Rev. Conrad Miller. In 1832, November 25th, he entered into the holy state of matrimony with Catharine Reinert. They were blessed with 11 children - 5 sons and 6 daughters. Three sons, three daughters and the widow survive. He had also 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and has still two brothers and two sisters living. He suffered from the prevailing "la grippe," which turned into pneumonia, and had probably also a slight stroke of apoplexy before he died. He died Sunday forenoon at 11:45 o'clock, February 9th, aged 83 years, 9 months and 7 days. He was buried February 14th at Oley. Text, Gen. 47:7-10.

Moses R. Sayer, of Oley, was the son of Daniel Sayer and his wife Elizabeth, born Reider. Born January 24th, 1816; baptized February 24th, 1817, by Rev. Pauli. He was confirmed a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. Roeller. On the 14th of April, 1870, he entered into the holy state of matrimony with Sarah Miller, with whom he lived 19 years, 10 months and 13 days. He was suffering for 14 months and 3 days from the infirmities incident to old age, when it pleased his Maker to call him away, on Friday, February 28th, 1890, age 74 years, 1 month, 3 days. He was buried on Tuesday on the Friedensburg Cemetery. Text, II Cor. 4:4, "The Glorious gospel of Christ." The widow survives.

Mary Pruella Moyer, daughter of Isaac M. and Mary Moyer, of Friedensburg, was born November 1st, 1889; baptized January 19th, 1890.

Warren Deysher, son of Oscar and Ellen Deysher, of Friedensburg, was born September 22d, 1889, baptized February 16th, 1890.

Paul Grover Brumbach, son of Jacob and Olivia Brumbach, of Friedensburg, was born January 7th, 1890; baptized February 23d, 1890.

Herbert Wayne Brumbach, son of Morris G. and Catharine Brumbach, of Oley, was born December 3d, 1889, baptized February 4th, 1890.

Victor Wayne Schaeffer, son of Daniel and Clara Schaeffer, of Oley, was born November 8th, 1889; baptized February 23, 1890.

Burials

Francis Breil, son of Abraham and Mary Breil, was born in Oley, August 6th, 1836; baptized in infancy, and later confirmed a member of the Reformed Church at Friedensburg. He was married to Elizabeth Schoedler, March 24th, 1856. He died January 7th, aged 53 years, 4 months, and 1 day. Interment at Friedensburg.

Clayton Youse, son of Levi H. and Emma Youse, was born at Friedensburg, December 14th, 1888; baptized March 17th, 1889; died January 26th, 1890, aged 1 year, 1 month and 12 days. Buried at Friedensburg.

Susanna Griesemer, of Oley, was the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Zacharias; born in Alsace, August 17th, 1805; baptized in infancy, and confirmed a member of the First Reformed Church, Reading. On the 23d of January, 1825, she entered into the holy state of matrimony with Jacob H. Griesemer. She died February 6th, 1890, aged 84 years, 5 months and 20 days. Interment at Oley.

Joshua Derr, of Lobach's, son of John and Elizabeth Derr, was born in Oley, September 27th, 1817; baptized in infancy, and later confirmed a member of the Reformed church at Friedensburg. June 19th, 1842, he was married to Sarah Clouser. He died February 20th, 1890, aged 72 years, 4 months and 23 days. Interment at Friedensburg.

Susanna Miller, daughter of Jonathan and Catharine Long, of Ruscombmanor, was born March 29th, 1820; baptized May 9th, 1820. She was, by confirmation, received into the full communion of the Reformed church. She was married to John Miller. She died March 6th, 1890. Interment at New Jerusalem.

Mary D. Reiff, daughter of Nathan and Esther Deturk, was born in Oley, January 27th, 1858; baptized in infancy. Received by confirmation as a member of the Friedensburg Reformed congregation. She was married to Morris Reiff, November 25th, 1876. She died March 10th, 1890, aged 32 years, 1 month and 13 days. Interment at Friedensburg.
