Heister, Daniel. Was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania, in 1747. He received a good English education, and became a thorough businessman. He settled in Montgomery County, where he was active during the Revolution, being Colonel, and afterwards Brigadier-General, of the Militia, and in service. In 1784 he was elected to the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, and in 1787 was appointed Commissioner of the Connecticut Land Claims. He was a member of the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Congresses from Pennsylvania. After this he removed to Hagerstown, Maryland, and was elected from that State a member of the Seventh and Eighth Congresses, during his attendance upon which last he died at Washington, March 8, 1804. He was one of those who voted for locating the Seat of Government on the Potomac.
