About Me: Jane Unger

I was born in Chester, PA and lived there until I graduated from high school. When I left Delaware County, I became the first in my family to do so since my ancestors first arrived in Pennsylvania in 1683. I've lived in several other Pennsylvania counties, Bucks, Philadelphia and Indiana, but ended up in Berks County back in the late 1970s where my husband and I renovated an old one room schoolhouse located about equidistant from New Jerusalem and Boyer's Junction.

Genealogy has always been a passion, one that I inherited from my grandfather, Chester F. Baker, whose extensive research is housed at the Delaware County Historical Society and who, in turn, got his start from his great aunt. With the advent of the internet, I have been able to add a good bit to his research and will pass it all on to my children, who I hope will continue the journey.

Of course, genealogy doesn't take up all of my time. After farming in West Virginia for a dozen years, we moved to Athens County Ohio in 1995 where we started Hoot owl Hollow Nursery, where we sell all sorts of plants and maintain a garden that is open for tours. In Berks County, the families I am researching are: Unger and Pott/Potts.
